Alvin Kirkland is an American former American football and rugby league player. Kirkland was a member of the "American All Stars" rugby league team [1] a team made up of American college football players that went on the 1953 American All Stars tour of Australia and New Zealand. None of them had played rugby league before the tour. [2] Kirkland returned to Australia in 1956, and played all regular season matches for the Parramatta District Rugby League Football Club in that year's New South Wales Rugby Football League season. Timothy Sheens is an Australian professional rugby league football coach and former player. Head Coach of the Australia national team between 2009 and 2015, he has also been the head coach of National Rugby League (NRL) clubs, the Penrith Panthers, the Canberra Raiders, the North Queensland Cowboys and the Wests Tigers. As a player, Sheens was a prop forward with Sydney's Penrith club in the 1970s and 1980s before he retired and became their coach.

The Clemson University Rugby Football Club was founded in 1967. Clemson finished the 2005 Season ranked #14, the 2006 Season ranked #13 in the nation, and the 2007 season #17. Clemson's best season was in 1996 when the team advanced to the quarterfinals of the national playoffs and finished ranked 7th nationally. Rugby is one of the oldest club sports at Clemson University. The team has gone 57–15 in the last three years, with the only losses coming to men's teams and top 20 ranked college rugby teams.
