Alyla Browne (born April 7, 2010) [1] is an Australian actress. She is best known for starring as the young Imperator Furiosa in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024). She has also played the title role in the television series The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (2023) and the role of Maria Robotnik in the film Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024).

Early life

Browne was born in Sydney, New South Wales. [2] Her family moved to the United States when she was 6 weeks old. [3] Her father is a plastic recycling magnate. [1]

Browne developed an interest in acting after her two older sisters started taking lessons at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. [3] She attends a performing arts school in Sydney. [4]

Career

Browne started acting in television commercials when she was 6. [5] [3] She was cast in her first television role on Mr Inbetween , an Australian black comedy series, in 2019. [3]

Browne has appeared as the daughter of Masha Dmitrichenko in Nine Perfect Strangers , Alice Hart in The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart , young Alithea Binnie in Three Thousand Years of Longing and Verity in the 2023 Australian film The Secret Kingdom. [5] [4]

In 2021, Browne was cast as young Imperator Furiosa in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga . Director George Miller said that she reminded him of a young Furiosa and that she impressed him while doing the splits on set while filming Three Thousand Years of Longing. [4] Rachel Handler of Vulture noted that Browne's reception at the film's 2024 Cannes premiere was "the loudest and most enthusiastic" aside from the reception for Miller himself. [1]

In February 2024, Browne was cast as Maria Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 . [6] She starred as Charlotte in the 2024 horror film Sting, which was released that April. [4]

Personal life

Browne is an animal lover and roller skater. [1] She owned a pet jumping spider, which she released. [3]

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a 2024 post-apocalyptic action film directed and produced by George Miller, who wrote the screenplay with Nico Lathouris. It is the fifth installment in Miller's Mad Max franchise, and the first not focused on series protagonist Max Rockatansky, instead acting as both a spin-off prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) and an origin story for the Fury Road character Furiosa, portrayed by Anya Taylor-Joy and Alyla Browne in the prequel. Set years before the events of Fury Road, the film follows the title character's life for over a decade, from her kidnapping by the forces of warlord Dementus to her ascension to the rank of Imperator.
