Alyson Habetz (born December 17, 1971) is an American college softball coach who is the current head coach at Louisiana.

Early life and education

While in high school, Habetz spent two years fighting the state courts for the opportunity to play baseball and eventually became the first female in the state of Louisiana to play high school baseball, earning All-District honors at Notre Dame High School She also earned all-state honors as a basketball player. Habetz graduated from Notre Dame High School class of 1990 as its salutatorian. [1] [2]

She attended University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she played college basketball and college softball. In 1993, she helped the Ragin' Cajuns advance to the Women's College World Series for the first time in program history. In 1994 she earned third-team All-American honors. At the time of her graduation she was the program's seventh leading scorer in women's basketball history with 1,192 points. [3] [4]

Playing career

Following her collegiate career she played professionally for the Colorado Silver Bullets as a pitcher for three years and one year for the Long Beach Aces as a first baseman and pitcher in 1998. [1]

Coaching career

Alabama

On September 21, 1998, Habetz joined Alabama's coaching staff in the program's third year, as the first assistant coach hired by Patrick Murphy. [1] On July 11, 2007, she was promoted to associate head coach. [5] On August 25, 2023, after 25 years with the program, she announced her retirement to help care for her mother. [6] [7]

During her time at Alabama she helped guide them to six SEC regular season titles, five SEC Tournament titles, 14 Women's College World Series appearances and in 2012 the Crimson Tide won its first national championship and the first for any Southeastern Conference program. [8]

Louisiana

On June 25, 2024, Habetz was named the head coach at Louisiana, returning to her alma mater. [9] [10]

Honors

Habetz was inducted into the University of Louisiana's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003, the Louisiana High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2006, Louisiana Softball Hall of Fame in 2016 and the West Alabama Softball Hall of Fame in 2019. [11] [12]

Mitch Gaspard is an American college baseball coach and former second baseman. He is the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at Louisiana Tech University. Gaspard played college baseball at Louisiana State University from 1984 to 1985 before transferring to the University of Houston where he played from 1986 to 1987. He is the former head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team. Gaspard agreed to a 3-year contract on September 1, 2009, starting in 2010. The 2010 season was Gaspard's first season as the head coach of the Crimson Tide. He had been on the Alabama coaching staff for ten years, and was given the head coaching position when Jim Wells retired. He resigned from Alabama on May 30, 2016.

Alexandrea "Lexie" Kenedie Elkins is an American softball coach, she served as the assistant coach at Houston. She is also a former collegiate All-American, and retired softball catcher. She began her college softball career at Texas Tech in 2013 before transferring to Louisiana for the 2014–16 seasons, where she set numerous school records. She is the Sun Belt Conference career leader in batting average and slugging percentage in only three seasons. She is also one of nine NCAA Division I players to hit a career .400 with 200 RBIs, 50 home runs and an .800% slugging percentage for a career.

Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park is a ballpark located on the South Campus of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Lafayette, Louisiana. Originally built in 1985, Lamson Park is the home of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Ragin' Cajuns softball program. When Lady Cajun's Park was built, the Softball program had no budget, no money, and no stable foundation. Now, Cajuns softball is known as a national powerhouse, year after year, and Lamson Park continues to grow.

The 2022 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team represented the University of Louisiana at Lafayette during the 2022 NCAA Division I softball season. The Ragin' Cajuns played their home games at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park and were led by fifth-year head coach Gerry Glasco. They were members of the Sun Belt Conference.

Garry Brodhead is the coach of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team since 2012. Before joining the University of Louisiana at Lafayette team, Brodhead worked as a farmer between 1978 and 1997. For his basketball career, Brodhead was the girls coach at Teurlings Catholic High School from 1997 to 2007. While accumulating 297 wins and 78 losses, his team won the 3A division of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association tournament in 2002. Brodhead also co-founded the Acadiana Stars girls basketball team in 1987 and the Girls World Biddy Basketball League by the mid-1990s.
