Amager Boldspil-Union, shortened to ABU, was a subregional governing body for men's association football on the island of Amager, Denmark. The Amager Football Association governed the league and cup tournaments for the official championship of Amager, known as ABUs Amager-Turnering (or Amagermesterskabsturneringen) and ABUs Pokalturnering (or Amagerpokalturneringen) since its inception in March 1912. [1] In 1916, the association's clubs formed the regional Københavns Forstadsklubbers Boldspil-Union (KFBU). Representative teams, either composed of individual clubs and a selection of players from several teams, referred to as Amager, competed in KFBU tournaments (referred to as Bydelsturneringen) or in exhibition matches against other representative teams and clubs. The subregional football association published a member's magazine known as Unionsbladet, which evolved into the KFBU magazine known as Fodboldbladet. [2]

History

With the intension of creating better a framework for the arrangements of private matches, BK Fremad Amager took the initiative of inviting all present clubs on the island of Amager to a first briefing in November 1911 – with the exception of B 1908 due to the club being considered a much stronger side than the Amager-based teams. [3] The representatives went back to their individual clubs to discuss the formation of a local football association, which resulted in a new meeting in January 1912, in which B 1908 was now invited to. [1] [4] The association was founded on 13 March 1912 at a meeting held by four clubs, Dragør BK, BK Fremad Amager, B 1908 and IK 99 (the football department of IK 99 was also known as B 99). [5] [6] [1] [7] Each club would got two representatives on the first governing board, which had E. Ebertsen (BK Fremad Amager) as chairman, Hans Svane (Dragør BK) as vice-chairman, O. Andersen (IK 99) as cashier and Harry Osbæck (B 1908) as secretary. [5] [6] [1] Each club had their own home grounds assigned by the local municipality. [8] The formation of Amager Boldspil-Union happened in the wake of KBU's conflicts in 1911 regarding the constellation of power and the number of votes between the baneejende klubber and the fælledklubberne. [9] [10]

Shortly after its foundation, the association announced two league tournaments, one for first team seniors (1. Senior-Hold) and one for reserve players (2. Senior-Hold) each split into a spring and fall section with a silver trophy as the perpetual prize, including a cup tournament held at the end of the season. [11] [8] [3] The first league trophy was given to B 1908 for winning the tournament for a second time in 1913, and the second trophy was also won by B 1908 in 1916 following three consecutive championships. [12] The first league season under the auspices of the Amager Football Association began play the following month with its four founding members as participants in both the first team and reserve leagues, mirroring the tournament rules of Kjøbenhavns Boldspil-Union (KBU). Three of the clubs also featured a team in the youth football tournament, while some clubs, such as BK Fremad Amager, featured several younger players in the senior squad compared to many of the other league teams. [3] The first league fixture was between BK Fremad Amager and B 1908 and took place on 14 April 1912 at BK Fremad Amager's home ground next to Cyklistpavillonen Alhambra on Amager Landevej (now Sundbyvester Plads next to Amagerbrogade). [6] [3] The league and cup tournaments would have the matches be refereed by a footballer or member of one of the other league clubs not involved in the fixture. [2]

By mid-June 1912, Sundby KFUM and Kastrup BK (exited between 1908 and 1927) had joined the association and would soon take part in the tournament matches played on Sundays. [1] [8] BK Sylvia joined the Copenhagen FA for a short period (1908–1909) in a cooperation with neighbouring BK Tjalfe, before joining the Amager FA in 1913, participating with their own first team in the league tournaments until 1920. [13] [14] BK Herles and Sundby BK also joined the association ahead of the 1913 season. [15] Dragør BK left the association after the second season, due to attempts from the association at refusing to give Dragør BK permission to play matches at their own home ground. [1] [7] [3] BK Hafnia and BK Sport joined in the summer of 1915, taking part in the 1915–16 season. [2] [1] In 1915, Amager Boldspil Union asked if BK Standard wanted to become a member in 1915, which the club did in 1916, beginning play in the 1916–17 reserve league season. [16] By 1920, the association had been reduced to five clubs (BK Sylvia, B 1908, BK Fremad Amager, Islands Brygges IF and BK Standard) totalling 400 footballers, a decrease from eight members at the end of the previous tournament. [4]

On 1 October 1916, the Amager FA published its first edition of their member's magazine with Emanuel Johansen (BK Sylvia) as the editor-in-chief, named Unionsbladet, containing articles, related cases and discussions, historical information, match reviews and statistics. [2] The magazine would later merge with the magazine published by Valby Boldspil-Union (VBU), known as Fodboldbladet, and evolve into the KFBU magazine known as Fodboldbladet. The association also arranged other sports events, such as running competitions. [7]

Throughout the association's first eight years, they had several fruitless negotiations with different civilian and military authorities to have the conditions of their playing grounds improved, which caused the dissolution of at least two clubs in 1920. [4] Due to a combination of the association being too narrow in its membership and the Copenhagen Football Association (KBU) refusing to accept new members, in April 1916 BK Fremad Amager via Amager Boldspil-Union took the initiative to form a larger football association, known as De københavnske Forstadsklubbers Boldspil Union (KFBU) in 1916. [3] [1] The KFBU would embrace association football clubs in the suburbs of Copenhagen; including Nørrebro, Frederiksberg, Valby, Nordre Birk and Amager, hence involving the associations Amager Boldspil-Union (ABU), Nørrebros Boldspil-Union (NBU, joined later on), Valby Boldspil-Union (VBU) and Nordre Birks Boldspil-Union (NBBU). [9] [3] [2] The KFBU arranged larger tournaments and held matches between representative squads of each suburb, referred to as Bydelsturneringen, and later played matches with a selected squad with players from each of KFBU's member clubs against the representative team of Fælleden . [3]

When the members of Amager Boldspil-Union started joining the Copenhagen FA in late summer of 1920, its league tournament ended, but its cup tournaments continued to be held annually in the summer months for several seasons. Amager Boldspil-Union ceased to exist sometime in the 1940s.

1912 ABUs Amager-Turnering

In the debut season for the association's league tournaments, B 1908 wins the competitions aimed at seniors 1 and 2 including youth (junior). [1] The first competitive league match for the League Championship of Amager was a clash between B 1908 and BK Fremad Amager, which B 1908 won with the score 13–0, held on 14 April 1912, which was followed by a league match between B 1899 (IK 99) and Dragør BK at B 1899's home ground, won by B 99 with the score 3–2. [17] [1] The league standings at the end of the spring season had B 1908 in first place with 6 points, BK Fremad Amager in second place with 3 points and IK 99 in third place with 2 points. B 1908 also won the other two league tournaments. [7]

The rules in 1912 stipulated, that 30 minutes of extra time was added to a cup match, if the teams were level after full time, while the rules in 1928 stipulated that a replay match would be scheduled, if a match was tied after full time. [31] [32]

A total of six clubs participated in this edition of the cup, namely BK Fremad Amager, B 1908, BK Standard, BK Sylvia, BK Olympia 1921 and Christianshavns BK, that took place before the start of the regional league tournaments. Boldklubben Fremad Amager is a Danish professional football club based in the district of Amager Vest, Copenhagen. As of the 2023–24 season, the club's senior men's team play in 2nd Division, the third tier of professional football in the country. The club have primarily played their home games at Sundby Idrætspark since the stadium's inauguration in 1922.

KBUs Pokalturnering was a Danish regional knockout association football competition contested annually from 1910 to 1953 by clubs that were members of the regional football association Copenhagen FA (KBU). Organised by and named after KBU, the competition rules has varied from being open to all Copenhagen clubs and being a closed tournament (1920–1946) reserved only for the highest ranking clubs, and as a consequence the number of participants have varied greatly throughout its history. For the first 10 seasons, between 7 and 13 teams participated until a fixed number of 8 teams was introduced from 1920 until 1946. When both the Sommerpokalturneringen and the KBUs B-Pokalturnering, both featuring the lower ranking KBU teams, were discontinued after their 1946 edition, the Copenhagen FA again allowed lower ranking clubs to participate in the association's primary cup competition, increasing the number of teams to 52. For the most part, the competition took place in the fall season and since the 1913 edition culminating in a final played at Københavns Idrætspark that saw large attendance figures and generated much media coverage.

Boldklubben 1908 is a Danish football club based in the district of Amager Vest, Copenhagen. The club's first team play in Denmark Series, the fifth tier of Danish football. The club play their home matches at Sundby Idrætspark, which has a capacity of 7,200. Founded in 1908, the club was a part of Danish second-tier football through the 1930s, had a spell in the top-flight War Tournaments during World War II, before experiencing a revival in the 1980s and 1990s, entering the third-tier Danish 2nd Division.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sundby Idrætspark</span>

Sundby Idrætspark is a sports complex, that consists of a combined association football and athletics stadium, located in the district of Amager Vest, Copenhagen. It has been the home ground of the association football clubs BK Fremad Amager and B 1908 since its auguration in September 1922, hosting the first senior women's team of Sundby BK in the seasons 2021–22 and 2022–23, and have previously hosted BK Standard (1923–1946) and the professional superstructure FC Amager (2008–2009). As of May 2019, the total capacity of approximately 7,200 spectators, with 2,500 seatings at the main grand stand stretching along one side of the pitch, makes the exhibition field among the 25th largest football stadiums in Denmark. The track of the exhibition venue has consisted of artificial turf since August 2018, where it replaced natural grass. In 2018, floodlights of 1,000 lux were installed at the exhibition field, so it was possible to show televised matches from the Danish Superliga.

The 1926–27 Landsfodboldturneringen was the 14th edition of the Danish national football championship play-offs, a Danish FA-organised club football tournament between the championship clubs from each of the six regional football associations. In advance of the tournament, a play-off structure had been agreed, which meant that the winners of KBUs Mesterskabsrække were directly qualified for the national championship final against the winner of the Provincial tournament. The semi-finals consisted of two matches; on one side the champions of JBUs Mesterskabsrække played against the champions of FBUs Mesterskabsrække and in the other match, the champions of the LFBUs Mesterskabsrække tournament played against the winners of a preliminary round between the champions of SBUs Mesterskabsrække and BBUs Mesterskabsrække.

The 1927–28 Danmarksmesterskabsturneringen i Fodbold was the 1st edition of the new year-long league structure for the Danish national football championship play-offs, a Danish FA-organised club football tournament between the highest ranking clubs from each of the six regional football associations. The national tournament at the top of the Danish football league system consisted of two stages, a preliminary round contested by 20 teams split into 5 groups determined by draw and distributed evenly among all regional associations, where the five winners of each group would qualify for the final championship round held at the end of the season. The clubs participating in the nationwide competition were also simultaneously contesting in their local regional league championships.

The 1926–27 KBUs Mesterskabsrække was the 39th season of the Copenhagen Football Championship since its establishment in 1889, and the 25th under the administration of Kjøbenhavns Boldspil-Union (KBU). The season was launched with two league matches on 29 August 1926 and the final round of regular league fixtures were played on 8 May 1927 with two matches. Boldklubben 1903 were the defending league champions from the 1925–26 KBUs season. The winner of the league would automatically qualify for the national championship final of the 1926–27 Landsfodboldturneringen played at the end of the regular season. All six teams in the league, including the winner of the 1926–27 KBUs A-række, also participated in the inaugural season of the new Danish Championship play-off structure, the 1927–28 Danmarksmesterskabsturneringen i Fodbold. The same six teams including both the winners and runners-up of the second-tier league, 1926–27 KBUs A-række automatically qualified for the 1927 edition of KBUs Pokalturnering.

The 1926 KBUs Pokalturnering was the 17th edition of the regional tournament, KBUs Pokalturnering, the highest senior cup competition organised by the Copenhagen FA (KBU). The tournament was held in the fall of 1926 with BK Frem, then based on Enghavevej, as the defending cup champions. The season was launched with one match on 22 August 1926 between the last season's runners-up in Copenhagen Football League B.93 and the newly promoted league club BK Fremad Amager. This season's installment was won by B.93 after defeating Kjøbenhavns BK 5–1 in the final played at Københavns Idrætspark on 7 November 1926, which was the club's fifth cup title after having contested in eight finals of the tournament. The 8 participants in the tournament included the six members of the 1925–26 KBUs Mesterskabsrække and the two highest placed teams from the 1925–26 KBUs A-række.

The 1926–27 KBUs A-række was the 21st season of the KBUs A-række, the second-tier of the Copenhagen football league structure organised by the Copenhagen FA (KBU). The season was launched on 29 August 1926 with three games and the final match was played on 1 June 1927 with the promotion and relegation play-off matches being held on 16 and 28 June 1927. BK Fremad Amager were the defending league winners, earning promotion to the 1926–27 KBUs Mesterskabsrække and replacing KFUMs BK, who were relegated to this season of the KBUs A-række. The winner of the league would automatically qualify for the inaugural season of the new Danish Championship play-off structure, the 1927–28 Danmarksmesterskabsturneringen i Fodbold and for the promotion/relegation play-off against the lowest placed team of the 1926–27 KBUs Mesterskabsrække for a spot in the 1927–28 KBUs Mesterskabsrække. The winners and runners-up also qualified for the 1927 KBUs Pokalturnering.

The 1927–28 KBUs Mesterskabsrække was the 40th season of the Copenhagen Football Championship since its establishment in 1889, and the 26th under the administration of Kjøbenhavns Boldspil-Union (KBU). The season was launched on 21 August 1927 with a match between BK Fremad Amager and B.93 at Københavns Idrætspark and concluded on 9 May 1928 with the final match of the regular league fixtures, with the play-off promotion/relegation match being held on 4 July 1928. B.93, playing in white shirts, started as the defending league champions from the 1926–27 KBUs season. The Copenhagen FA first-tier league ran simultaneously with the inaugural edition of the 1927–28 Danmarksmesterskabsturneringen i Fodbold, in which all of the league's teams participated. All six teams in the league, including the winners and the runners-up of the 1927–28 KBUs A-række automatically qualified for the 1928 edition of KBUs Pokalturnering, while the same teams and the third placed team of the 1927–28 KBUs A-række qualified for the 1928–29 Danmarksmesterskabsturneringen.

The season was launched in on 28 August 1927 and the final rounds of regular league fixtures were held on 21 June 1928 with the play-off promotion match being held on 4 July 1928. Handelsstandens BK were the defending league winners from the 1926–27 KBU season, but did not manage to earn promotion to the 1927–28 KBUs Mesterskabsrække in last season's promotion play-off matches and hence remained in the league. The winner of the league qualified for promotion/relegation play-off matches against the lowest placed team of the 1927–28 KBUs Mesterskabsrække for a spot in the 1928–29 KBUs Mesterskabsrække. The winners and the runners-up would also qualify for the 1928 KBUs Pokalturnering at the end of the season, while the winners, the runners-up and the third placed team qualified for participation in the 1928–29 Danmarksmesterskabsturneringen i Fodbold.

The 1927 KBUs Pokalturnering was the 18th edition of the regional tournament, KBUs Pokalturnering, the highest senior cup competition organised by the Copenhagen FA (KBU). The tournament was held in the fall of 1927 with B.93 as the defending cup champions. The season was launched on 28 August 1927 with the two matches featuring three of the lowest placed league teams from the previous season. BK Frem won the 1927 edition by defeating the previous season's cup champions, Østerbro-based B.93, 3–2 in the final after 3–0 lead halfway through the second half and an overall even match, played at Københavns Idrætspark on 6 November 1927, which was the BK Frem's second cup title in the tournament after seven appearances in the finals. The 8 participants in the tournament included the six members of the 1926–27 KBUs Mesterskabsrække and the two highest placed teams from the 1926–27 KBUs A-række.

FBUs Pokalturnering was a Danish regional knockout association football competition contested annually from 1920 to 1953 by members of the regional football association Funen FA (FBU). Organised by and named after FBU, it was the third regional cup competition introduced on a national level, and the second in the province, after the KBUs Pokalturnering in 1910 and the LFBUs Pokalturnering in 1915. The 1953 season of the cup tournament became the last edition due to the Danish FA's introduction of a new national-wide cup competition in 1954.

The 1927–28 FBUs Mesterskabsrække was the 24th season of the Funen Football Championship since its establishment in 1904 under the administration of Fyns Boldspil-Union (FBU), and the 2nd season since the league was renamed to the FBUs Mesterskabsrække. The launch of the season began on 2 October 1927 and the final round of regular league fixtures were played on 29 April 1928 with the play-off promotion/relegation match being held on 13 May 1928. B 1909 were the defending league champions from the 1926–27 season. The league ran simultaneously with the inaugural edition of the 1927–28 Danmarksmesterskabsturneringen i Fodbold, in which three the league's best placed teams from the previous season participated. The three highest ranking teams in the final standings would automatically qualify for the 1928–29 Danmarksmesterskabsturneringen i Fodbold. All eligible teams in the FBUs Mesterskabsrække including the top placed teams of the 1927–28 FBUs A-række would also participate in the next season of the Funen regional cup tournament, 1928 FBUs Pokalturnering. After the end of the season, the league winner would take part in the 1928 Provinsmesterskabsturneringen.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">1928 Provinsmesterskabsturneringen</span> Football tournament season

The 1928 Provinsmesterskabsturneringen i Fodbold was the 15th edition of the Danish provincial championship play-off, Provinsmesterskabsturneringen, the second highest senior cup competition, crowning the best provincial championship club of the five regional football associations outside the dominating Copenhagen football clubs, organised and financially supported by the national football organization Danish FA (DBU). This was the first edition of the tournament under its new status as a separate championship cup tournament, no longer being an essential part of the road to winning the Danish Football Championship, which it had been under the previous structure of Landsfodboldturneringen. The new Danish Football Championship structure, had its debut this season, 1927–28 Danmarksmesterskabsturneringen. Following a recommendation by the five provincial football associations, the Danish FA finally decided to re-establish a provincial football tournament in late March 1928.

The 1927–28 SBUs Mesterskabsrække was the 32nd season of the Zealand Football Championship since its establishment in 1902 under the administration of Sjællands Boldspil-Union (SBU), and the 1st season since the league was renamed from SBUs A-Række to the SBUs Mesterskabsrække. The launch of the season began on 28 August 1927 and the final round of regular league fixtures were played on 20 May 1928 with the championship replays being held on 27 May and 3 June 1928 — including a 5 months long winter break between November and March. Skovshoved IF were the defending league champions from the 1926–27 season. The league ran simultaneously with the inaugural edition of the 1927–28 Danmarksmesterskabsturneringen i Fodbold, in which three the league's best placed teams from the previous season participated. The four highest ranking teams in the final standings would automatically qualify for the 1928–29 Danmarksmesterskabsturneringen i Fodbold. After the end of the season, the league winner would take part in the 1928 Provinsmesterskabsturneringen.

The 1926 JBUs Pokalturnering was the 3rd edition of the regional tournament, JBUs Pokalturnering, the highest senior cup competition organised by the Jutland FA (JBU). The tournament was held in the third and fourth quarter of 1926 with Aalborg BK as the defending cup champions. The season was launched on 22 August 1926 with the first round, embraced five cup rounds and concluded on 21 November 1926 with the cup final. A total of 29 clubs participated in the cup tournament, which was the same number of teams as the previous season.

The 1964 Kvalifikationsturneringen was the fourteenth edition of the Danish fourth-tier association football division since its establishment in 1950 as part of the Danmarksturneringen's nation-wide league structure. Governed by the Danish FA, the season was launched in March 1964, and the last round of matches concluded on 15 November 1964. KFUM København and BK Rødovre entered as relegated teams from last season's third division, while IK Viking, BK Dalgas, Assens G&IK, IF Fuglebakken, Brønderslev IF, B 1921 and Holte IF entered as promoted teams from the 1963 Bornholm Series, 1963 Copenhagen Series, 1963 Funen Series, 1963 Jutland Series, 1963 Lolland-Falster Series and 1963 Zealand Series respectively. The twelve teams in the division entered the 1964–65 Danish Cup in the cup tournament's qualifying rounds. Fixtures for the 1964 season were announced on 6 January 1964.
