Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn is an English actress known for playing the lead role in the 2020 movie Lovers Rock . She was named one of the 2020 Screen International Stars of Tomorrow. [3]
St. Aubyn was born in England to Jamaican-Cuban and Guyanese parents and grew-up in south east London. [4] Her father was a reggae musician. [5] [6] [7] [8]
St. Aubyn attended the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in East London. [1] She graduated from the BRIT School in Croydon, [7] where she took an acting foundation course, in 2012. [9] After a break spent in the hospitality industry, she attended the Identity School of Acting. [10] She would go on to take a 9-month intense training course at the National Youth Theatre. [10] In 2018 she joined the London cast of the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as an understudy. The anthology consists of five films that tell distinct stories about the lives of West Indian immigrants in London from the 1960s to the 1980s. The title references a proverb – "Small axe fall big tree" or "If you are the big tree, we are the small axe" – that was popularised by Bob Marley in his 1973 song "Small Axe".
