Ambikasuthan Mangad is an Indian Malayalam language writer. He was a professor of Malayalam at Nehru Arts and Science College, Kanhangad. His literary contributions range from short stories to novels in Malayalam. He has written more than 40 books. [1]

He is active in protests against the known pesticide Endosulfan. His novel Enmakaje portrays the life of victims in the village Enmakaje of Kasaragod. "Neelakandan" is the famous character in this novel. His work drew international attention of the people to this malady. His book has played a major role in banning the pesticide. [2] The novel Enmakaje has translated into English by J. Devika as Swarga. [3] Enmakaje was translated to Tamil and Kannada languages also. [4]

Personal life

Born in Bare village in Kasargod district on 8 October 1962, Ambikasutan Mangad holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology, a Master's Degree in Malayalam and an MPhil. He was a professor at Nehru College of Arts and Science, Kanhangad. Presently he's full time engaged in activism.

A. Sethumadhavan, popularly known as Sethu, is a Malayalam fiction writer. He has published more than 35 books. He won the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in 2007 for the work Adayalangal. He received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Awards in 1982 and 1978 for his works Pandavapuram and Pediswapnangal; and Vayalar Award for Adyalangal in 2005. Narayanan Nambuthiri Kakkad, commonly known as N. N. Kakkad, was an Indian poet of the Malayalam language. He was a recipient of several awards including Odakkuzhal Award, Asan Smaraka Kavitha Puraskaram, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Poetry and Vayalar Award.

Cherukad Award is an annual award given for literary works in Malayalam. The award was instituted in 1978 by Cherukad Smaraka Trust at Perinthalmanna, Kerala, India. It is named after Malayalam playwright, poet, novelist, and political activist Cherukad Govinda Pisharodi. The award comprises ₹25,000 and a citation.

Enmakaje is a Malayalam language novel written by Ambikasuthan Mangad based on the life of the people in Enmakaje, a village in Kasargod affected by the Endosulfan disaster in Kerala. Ambikasuthan Mangad, a professor of Malayalam at Nehru Arts and Science College, wrote the novel after directly visiting the areas affected by Endosulfan. This is his debut novel. The novel is used as a textbook in seven universities. The book brought attention to the plight of the pesticide victims. The novel has been published in 17 editions in Malayalam and has been translated into English, Tamil and Kannada. An upcoming Hindi translation is being published by the Hindi Prachar Sabha on the organization's 100th anniversary.

Myna Umaiban is a toxicology book researcher and author from Kerala, India. She holds a Doctorate in Scientific and Cultural Analysis of Traditional Toxicology Books in Kerala. She has authored numerous books including novels, short stories and books on toxicology.

K. P. Sankaran is a Malayalam–language literary critic from Kerala, India. Born on 15 May 1939 in Painkulam in Trichur district of the erstwhile Kingdom of Cochin, he was a teacher at Changanacherry S.B. College, Trichur Kerala Varma College and Mysore Regional Institute of Education from where he retired in 2001. He resides with his wife Kamala Devi in Kottapparambu near Chelavoor, Calicut since 2019. He has authored around 30 books.
