Amestigon is one of Austria's oldest black metal bands. It was founded in 1993 by Tharen (also of Dargaard and Dominion III) and Thurisaz. [1] Both had been a part of the black metal band Abigor and members of this band still contribute as guest musicians on recordings on Amestigon releases.
The band began by recording two demos, titled Mysterious Realms and Through The Ages We Preserve.... Both were recorded onto cassette format. These demos were enough to get them signed onto Napalm Records and a split CD with the folk metal band Angizia was made as their debut release. Also entitled Mysterious Realms, the split CD was released in 1996.
However the band themselves were experiencing difficulties, and maintaining a constant line-up proved a problem. After releasing the mini-CD Höllentanz in 1997, the band decided to part ways. This split also marked the end of their relationship with Napalm Records.
Tharen went on to form the innovative neoclassical band Dargaard, and the industrial band Dominion III, but in 1998 his interest in black metal was rekindled and he decided to reform the band. He got in touch with Herr Wolf who agreed to join the band in winter 1998 on guitars; shortly thereafter, Silenius (vocals) and Lanz (guitar and bass) completed the line-up with Tharen on drums and keyboards. Thurisaz left the band to eventually take over vocal and bass guitar responsibilities for Abigor.
The band released a promotional CD in 2000 titled Remembering Ancient Origins; it was a collection of songs previously unreleased from 1995 to 1999. It was limited to 100 copies and was released by the band personally with no record label involvement. This CD is now out of print.
The band's most recent release is a split CD with Hellbound, entitled Nebelung, 1384, released in 2002 through their new label Millennium Metal Music. At this time there is no new news about any future releases, except a short news piece on their official site that mentions two new mini-CD projects.
Tharen recently[ when? ] commented that the band may well be coming to an end soon. He claims that the band have not had contact in a while, and have not been working on new material. However he claims to be in communication with Thurisaz again after the split, and a possibility of a new line-up may be announced soon.[ when? ]
However, in 2009 the first full-length Sun of all Suns was released.
Asmodeus is an Austrian black metal band founded in 1996.
Summoning is an Austrian atmospheric black metal band based in Vienna. Since their formation in 1993, they have released eight full-length albums and two EPs via Napalm Records. Their lyrics make extensive use of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth writings and mythology. Since 1995, their lineup has had a consistent lineup of Richard Lederer as "Protector" and Michael Gregor as "Silenius". The band never played live performances and has consistently maintained that they have no interest in ever doing so. Their latest album With Doom We Come was released on 5 January 2018.
Abigor is an Austrian black metal band formed in 1993. They are named after an upper demon of war in Christian demonology.
Doom are an English hardcore punk band from Birmingham whose first lineup were together from 1987 to 1990. Despite its short existence, the band is considered pivotal in the rise of crust punk, a genre of punk rock that takes influence and elements from extreme metal. They recorded for Peaceville Records and are cited as an early precursor to grindcore. Doom were also a favourite of BBC Radio DJ John Peel.
Exhumed is an American deathgrind band from San Jose, California that is currently signed to Relapse Records and centered around guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey. The band has released eight albums and eight split 7-inch singles. They were formed in 1990, went on hiatus in 2005, and reformed in 2010.
Dargaard is an Austrian neoclassical dark wave band formed in 1997. Typically in dark and somber moods, the music of Dargaard presents medieval and folk-like melodies, often orchestrated through the use of various instrument patches from a keyboard. The band has four releases at this time.

Michael Gregor is an Austrian musician who is currently in the bands Amestigon as vocalist, Kreuzweg Ost as programmer, and Summoning as vocalist, keyboardist, and bassist; the two latter bands are bands that he is a founding member of. He supplied vocals for Abigor from 1994 to 1999 and appeared on seven of Abigor's releases. Silenius was vocalist and keyboardist for Pazuzu and played on the band's split album and debut album. Along with fellow Summoning bandmate Richard Lederer, Silenius also used to be a member of Die Verbannten Kinder Evas, serving as a vocalist and a keyboardist. Silenius has recorded music for a project called "Mirkwood", of which no material has yet been released.
Life Has Ended Here is the second album by Dominion III. It features a more prominent industrial edge and guitar-driven tracks. The style continues to be characterized by hard and aggressive rhythms combined with hopeless and sinister soundscapes.
Leytmotif Luzifer is the ninth studio album by Austrian black metal band Abigor. It was released on 18 July 2014.
