Amit Wanchoo is director of Eaton Laboratories, the only pharmaceutical company of Kashmir, India.

Kashmir former princely state, now a conflict territory between India and Pakistan

Kashmir is the northernmost geographical region of the Indian subcontinent. Until the mid-19th century, the term "Kashmir" denoted only the Kashmir Valley between the Great Himalayas and the Pir Panjal Range. Early life

Wanchoo was born in the city of Srinagar in Kashmir. He was brought during conflicts over the region, which has seen disturbance in last two decades, and has been victim of violence.[ citation needed ] His grandfather Shri. H.N. Wanchoo was assassinated by unknown gunmen in Kashmir.[ citation needed ]

Amit did his residency in oncology and was associated with various mental health outreach programs.[ citation needed ] He founded Rotary Club of Kashmir, that has actively worked in the field of health and literacy in Kashmir.[ citation needed ] Amit has also contributed a lot to the field of art and music in Kashmir.[ citation needed ] Amit founded the first music band of Kashmir IMMERSION and made this band one of the uniting forces between people of different communities.[ citation needed ] Wanchoo is also the CEO of SPACE COMMUNICATIONS, which is the prestigious event management company of Kashmir and also trains youngsters interested in pre and post production study.

Dr. Amit Wanchoo has been awarded prestigious fellowships and awards. Amit has been a PAUL HARRIS FELLOW -05 by Rotary International, COMMON WEALTH FELLOW -06, YALE WORLD FELLOW-07, SIP SINGAPORE FELLOW -08, YOUNG GLOBAL LEADER by World Economic Forum -09. He has also been selected as fellow at London School of Economics-09. In addition, he has been awarded nationally with prestigious awards. In 2010, he was awarded with the title "BRIDGING LIVES, HEALING HUMANITY" by Union Minister for Health Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad. Dr. Wanchoo got selected for fellowship in Global leadership and Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School in 2014.

Exodus of Kashmiri Hindus

The Hindus of the Kashmir Valley, were forced to flee the Kashmir valley as a result of being targeted by JKLF and Islamist insurgents during late 1989 and early 1990. Of the approximately 300,000 to 600,000 Hindus living in the Kashmir Valley in 1990 only 2,000–3,000 remain there in 2016.

Many small organisations have formed to struggle for women's rights in Jammu and Kashmir. The 1947 accession of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) to India has led to conflict affecting the region's women. Kashmiri women, members of a patriarchal society, have had to fight inequality and discrimination and have been victims of violence by the Pakistani security forces and militants. There has been an open instance of the now famous schoolgirl who was shot in the head by radical terrorists for wanting to educate herself.
