Amita Rao is an American comedian and actress.

Biography

Rao attended drama school at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts. In 2020, she graduated with a degree in theatre. [1]

Before having a breakthrough in acting, Rao worked[ when? ] as a development intern at a production company in New York. [2]

Rao moved in August 2021 to Chicago to train in long-form improvisational comedy at the Annoyance Theatre and at The Second City and performed with comedy troupe Gag Reflex. [3] [4]

In 2024, Rao had a dramatic role in the suspense thriller television series The Emperor of Ocean Park . [5]

In 2025, Rao portrayed "Nandika" in the Hulu comedy series Deli Boys . [3] [4]

Also in 2025, Rao began to portray "Issa" in the FX comedy series Adults (originally developed under the name Snowflakes), created by The Tonight Show writers Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw and executive producer by Nick Kroll, about five housemates. Although set in Queens, New York, the show is actually filmed in Toronto. [6] [7] [8] Her character has been described as "loud, dramatic [and] sexually liberated" by Time (magazine) , [9] and "unapologetically brash". [10]
