Elisabethenburg Palace is a Baroque palace located on the northwestern edge of Meiningen in Germany. Until 1918 it was the residence of the Dukes of Saxe-Meiningen. The castle now houses the Meininger Museum as well as the Max Reger archives, the Thuringian State Archives, the Max Reger music school, the Johannes Brahms concert hall, a restaurant, the tower Cafe, and the ceremonial rooms of the Meinigen City Council and Registry Office.
Fort Cobb was a United States Army post established in what is now Caddo County, Oklahoma in 1859 to protect relocated Native Americans from raids by the Comanche, Kiowa, and Cheyenne. The fort was abandoned by Maj. William H. Emory at the beginning of the Civil War, but then occupied by Confederate forces from 1861–1862. The post was eventually reoccupied by US forces starting in 1868. After establishing Fort Sill the US Army abandoned Fort Cobb. Today there is little left of the former military post.
Tryon's Raid occurred in July 1779, during the American Revolutionary War, in which 2700 men, led by British Major General William Tryon, raided the Connecticut ports of New Haven, Fairfield, and Norwalk. They destroyed military and public stores, supply houses, and ships as well as private homes, churches, and other public buildings. The raids were ineffectually resisted by militia forces.
Meiningen station is a junction of four railways and with its facilities is one of the most important railway stations in southern Thuringia, Germany.
The Meiningen Theatre, now called the Meininger Staatstheater, is a four-division theater in the Thuringian town of Meiningen. The theatre offers music theatre, drama, concerts and puppet theatre. The programme is further enhanced by the inclusion of ballet performances produced and performed by Landestheater Eisenach. The orchestra affiliated with the theatre is the Meininger Hofkapelle. Until 2017, the theatre operated as "Südthüringisches Staatstheater" before changing its name to "Meininger Staatstheater". It is jointly funded by the state, city and county of Schmalkalden Meiningen under the umbrella of the Cultural Foundation Meiningen-Eisenach, Thuringia.
Amtsgericht Nordhausen is the District Court of Nordhausen and one of 23 district courts in Thuringia, Germany. Established in 1879, it has approximately 60 employees, including judges. The jurisdiction of the district court of Nordhausen includes the core city of Nordhausen, Ellrich and Bleicherode, the management communities of Goldene Aue and Hohnstein/Südharz, the unified communities of Werther and Hohenstein, and the community of Sollstedt.
