ANCIIENTS are a Canadian heavy metal band from Vancouver, British Columbia. [1] The band was founded by vocalist and guitarist Kenny Cook, guitarists Brock MacInnes and Chris Dyck, bassist Aaron "Boon" Gustafson and drummer Mike Hannay.

The band was formed in 2011 following the demise of Spread Eagle (not the New York hard rock band of the same name), a band which included Cook, Gustafson and Dyck. [2]

The band released their debut album, Heart of Oak, [3] in 2013 on Season of Mist. The album was named a long-listed nominee for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize. [4]

In spring 2013, the band toured part of the United States as an opening act for Lamb of God. [2] [5] In fall 2013, the band were slated to tour both Canada and the United States as an opening act for selected dates on Sepultura's "Tsunami of Metal" tour, [6] although the tour was cancelled due to Sepultura's difficulties in obtaining travel visas to enter the United States. [7]

In 2014, Brock MacInnes left Anciients to join the band Dead Quiet. [8] Dyck left the band in January 2017, [9] but the band had recorded their second album Voice of the Void, which was released in October of 2017. [10] The album won the Juno Award for Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2018. [11]

Anthrax is an American heavy metal band from New York City, formed in 1981 by rhythm guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. They were also one of the first thrash metal bands to emerge from the East Coast. Four of the band's studio albums have also achieved gold certifications by the RIAA, including their third full-length record Among the Living (1987), which cemented Anthrax's reputation as one of the most successful thrash metal bands.

Slayer American thrash metal band

Slayer was an American thrash metal band from Huntington Park, California. The band was formed in 1981 by guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, drummer Dave Lombardo and bassist/vocalist Tom Araya. Slayer's fast and aggressive musical style made them one of the "big four" bands of thrash metal, alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Slayer's final lineup comprised Araya, King, drummer Paul Bostaph and guitarist Gary Holt. Drummer Jon Dette was also a member of the band.

Sepultura Brazilian heavy metal band

Sepultura is a Brazilian heavy metal band from Belo Horizonte. Formed in 1984 by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, the band was a major force in the groove metal, thrash metal and death metal genres during the late 1980s and early 1990s, with their later experiments drawing influence from alternative metal, world music, nu metal, hardcore punk, and industrial metal. Sepultura has also been credited as one of the second wave of thrash metal acts from the late 1980s to early-to-mid-1990s.

Lamb of God (band) American heavy metal band

Lamb of God is an American heavy metal band from Richmond, Virginia. Formed in 1994 as Burn the Priest, the group consists of bassist John Campbell, vocalist Randy Blythe, guitarists Mark Morton and Willie Adler, and drummer Art Cruz. The band is considered a significant member of the new wave of American heavy metal movement.

Testament (band) American thrash metal band

Testament is an American thrash metal band from Berkeley, California. Formed in 1983 under the name Legacy, the band's current lineup comprises rhythm guitarist Eric Peterson, lead vocalist Chuck Billy, lead guitarist Alex Skolnick, bassist Steve Di Giorgio and drummer Dave Lombardo. Testament has experienced many lineup changes over the years, with Peterson being the only remaining original member, though they have since been rejoined by one of its songwriters Skolnick, who was out of the band from 1992 to 2005. Billy has been a member of Testament since 1986, when he replaced original singer Steve "Zetro" Souza, who had joined Exodus as the replacement of Paul Baloff. He and Peterson are the only members to appear on all of Testament's studio albums, with the latter being the only constant member overall.

Gorguts Canadian death metal band

Gorguts is a Canadian death metal band from Sherbrooke, Quebec, formed in 1989. The band has been through many personnel changes since its inception, and its only constant member has been guitarist and vocalist Luc Lemay, who remains the primary creative force in the band. To date they have released five full-length albums and one EP. Their most recent release is the EP Pleiades' Dust, released on May 13, 2016. Their latest full-length album Colored Sands was released in 2013 and was nominated for a Juno Award. Musically the band is known for its complex, musically dense form of technical death metal, and has become "one of the most advanced, experimental, and challenging groups in the entire genre."

Chuck Billy (vocalist) American vocalist

Charles "Chuck" Billy is an American singer who is best known as the lead vocalist for thrash metal band Testament.

Groove metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music that began in the early 1990s. The genre achieved success in the 1990s and continued having some more success in the 2000s. Inspired by thrash metal and traditional heavy metal, groove metal features raspy singing and screaming, down-tuned guitars, heavy guitar riffs, and syncopated rhythms. Unlike thrash metal, groove metal is usually slower and also uses elements of traditional heavy metal. Pantera are often considered the pioneers of groove metal, and groove metal expanded in the 1990s with bands like White Zombie, Machine Head, Skinlab, and Sepultura. The genre continued in the 2000s with bands like Lamb of God, DevilDriver, Five Finger Death Punch, and Hellyeah.

Jairo Guedes Braga, known professionally as Jairo Guedz, is a Brazilian guitarist and bassist, currently playing guitar for The Troops of Doom and The Southern Blacklist, and bass in a Metallica tribute band called Metallica Cover Brazil.

Sepultura discography

The following is the discography of Sepultura, a Brazilian heavy metal band. Sepultura was formed in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in 1984 by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera. After several lineup changes, Paulo Jr. and Jairo Guedz became permanent members for the band's first studio album Morbid Visions, released in 1986 through Cogumelo Records. Guitarist Jairo Guedz left Sepultura following the band's first tour and was replaced by Andreas Kisser. With the new lineup, Sepultura recorded Schizophrenia in 1987. Beneath the Remains, the first album from the band's contract with Roadrunner Records, was released in 1989, followed by Arise in 1991 and Chaos A.D. in 1993. Sepultura's best-selling album Roots, was released in 1996 and debuted at number 27 on the Billboard 200.

Dagoba (band) French heavy metal band

Dagoba is a French heavy metal band formed in Marseille in 1997.

Betzefer is an Israeli groove metal band originating from the community settlement Maccabim-Re'ut. The band was formed up in 1998 and was signed to Roadrunner Records from 2005 to 2007. Betzefer is notable for becoming Israel's first heavy metal band to have released its debut album on a major heavy metal label.

Cavalera Conspiracy American heavy metal band, founded 2007

Cavalera Conspiracy is an American heavy metal supergroup founded by Brazilian brothers Max and Igor Cavalera. The band originally formed in 2007 as Inflikted but changed its name for legal reasons. The group's creation marked the end of a 10-year feud between the Cavalera brothers who founded Sepultura in the early 1980s.

The Resolution Tour was a current concert tour by American heavy metal band Lamb of God in support of the group's seventh studio album, Resolution, which was released in January 2012.

Deadsquad is Indonesian death metal band formed in 2006 in Jakarta. The band was initially started as a project by guitarist Ricky Siahaan of Seringai and Stevie Item of Andra and The Backbone, but later developed into a full band.

Immortal Bird

Immortal Bird is an American blackened death metal band made up of Rae Amitay, John Picillo, Nate Madden and Matt Korajczyk. They are from Chicago, Illinois. Their music is influenced by grindcore, progressive metal, and post-metal. The band was formed in 2013 with the intention of being a recording project, but has evolved into an actively touring and collaborative group.

Archspire Canadian technical death metal band

Archspire is a Juno Award-winning Canadian technical death metal band from Vancouver. They have released four studio albums and are currently signed to Season of Mist.
