Anders Frithiof August (born 15 June 1978 in Copenhagen) is a Danish screenwriter, graduated from the National Film School of Denmark in 2007.

He wrote the short film Grisen (The Pig), which was nominated for an Oscar in 2009. In 2011 he won the Danish film- and television industry's biggest talent award, The Nordisk Film Award.

He has written several episodes of Danish prime-time television as well as feature films, most notably Applause , [1] which won numerous awards for main actress Paprika Steen in 2010, and the 2012 Oscar short listed comedy SuperClásico . The 2011 biopic A Funny Man , was the biggest local box-office hit in Denmark in 2011. Both films earned him nominations for a Danish Academy Award, the Robert Award as best screenwriter (the award eventually went to Lars Von Trier for Melancholia ). He has since written a number of episodes of Danish drama The Legacy and co-created a series a financial crime series called Follow the Money for the same network, DR. It was premiered at the 2015 Berlinale. In 2015, BBC America / AMC announced they were developing a show created by August. He also wrote the screenplay for the 2023 film Ehrengard: The Art of Seduction , which was directed by his father, Bille August.

Family

He is the son of Danish film and television director Bille August through his marriage to first wife Annie Munksgård Lauritzen. Through his father’s third marriage, he spent his teen years (13–19) as the stepson of Star Wars actress Pernilla August. His younger half-sister on his father’s side is Danish-Swedish actress and singer-songwriter Alba August.

<i>The Best Intentions</i> 1992 film directed by Bille August

The Best Intentions is a 1991 Swedish television drama film directed by Bille August and written by Ingmar Bergman. It is semi-autobiographical, telling the story of the complex relationship between Bergman's parents, Erik Bergman and Karin Åkerblom, who are renamed Henrik and Anna in the film but retain their true surnames. The film documents the courtship and the difficult early years of their marriage, until the point when Anna becomes pregnant with their second son, who corresponds to Ingmar himself. Samuel Fröler and Pernilla August played Henrik and Anna, respectively.

SuperClásico is a 2011 Danish romantic comedy film set in Argentina and directed by Ole Christian Madsen. The film was selected as the Danish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards. On 18 January 2012, the film was named as one of the nine shortlisted entries for the Oscars.

The Robert Award for Best Danish Film is presented at an annual Robert Award ceremony by the Danish Film Academy

The 65th Bodil Awards were held on 3 March 2012 in the Bremen Theater in Copenhagen, Denmark, honouring the best national and foreign films of 2010. Lars von Trier's Melancholia won the awards for Best Danish Film and Best Cinematography. The only other multiple winner was A Funny Man, which took the awards for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Set Design. It also won the new Audience Award which was introduced this year in collaboration with Blockbuster. The awards for Best Leading and Supporting Actresses went to Lena Maria Christensen won the award for Best Actress for her performance in A Family and Paprika Steen won Best Supporting Actress for SuperClásico. Testamentet directed by Christian Sønderby Jepsen earned the award for Best Documentary. Winter's Bone was named Best American Film while the Iranian A Separation was selected as Best Non-American Film.

The Robert Award for Best Screenplay is one of the merit awards presented by the Danish Film Academy at the annual Robert Awards ceremony. The award has been handed out since 1984, but except in 1991 and 1993. On two occasions, in 2005 and in 2015, the Academy handed out two awards in the category, one for best original screenplay, and one for best adapted screenplay.

Karsten Kiilerich is a Danish film and television director, screenwriter and animator. He is a co-founder of the Danish animation studio A. Film Production, for which he still actively works. Kiilerich has been involved in over 20 feature and short films.
