Andi Sex Gang (born Andreas Graham McElligott [1] [2] ) is the founder, vocalist and main songwriter of the band Sex Gang Children who were a prominent act in the gothic rock movement of the 1980s. His band played at the infamous Batcave club in 1982. [3] [4] He has also recorded as an experimental solo artist.

Contents

McElligot lived in London squats before entering music, and was involved in leftist activism. He formed the band in early 1982. [5] In the late 1980s, McElligot obtained the rights to the material he had released with the band and controls its licensing. Over the years, he had a number of conflicts with a number of record companies. [6]

In 2011, a documentary, Bastard Art, by Vince Corkadel presented an overview of his career. [6]

The Batcave was a weekly club-night launched at 69 Dean Street in central London in 1982. It is considered to be the birthplace of the Southern English goth subculture. It lent its name to the term Batcaver, used to describe fans of the original gothic rock music, who would adorn themselves in Batwing coffin necklaces to distinguish themselves from other goth clubs.

Dave Roberts is a British musician, known for being the original bassist of the UK gothic rock band Sex Gang Children during the Batcave era of the early 1980s, recording under the name "Dave Sex Gang". He left the band in 1983 following the release of their first studio album, Song and Legend, and formed the group Carcrash International, releasing several singles in the 1983–1985 period.
