Andre Rush is an American celebrity chef and military veteran. He worked in the White House as a Chef for four administrations. Rush, a retired Master Sergeant of the U.S. Army, gained attention for his large biceps and muscular physique. [1] [2]

Biography

Early life and education

Rush grew up in Columbus, Mississippi. [3] [4] He played football in the position of running back at Lee High School in Columbus. [3] He holds a bachelor's degree in Business Management from Trident University International and an associate degree in Hotel Restaurant Management from Central Texas College. [5]

Culinary career

Rush enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1993. He has been deployed overseas several times, and served as a trainer in hand-to-hand combat and food service. In 1997, Rush began to work as a chef at the White House. He has served the presidential administrations of Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump. [6] [7] He worked at the White House part-time while simultaneously working at The Pentagon. [8] He was in the gym of the Pentagon when it was hit during the September 11, 2001 attacks, and chose to volunteer for combat duties afterwards. [3] Rush was a member of the U.S. Army Culinary Arts Team. [2]

In June 2018, Rush received fame when he was photographed by CNN reporter Kate Bennett and Wall Street Journal reporter Vivian Salama preparing a Ramadan meal for a White House dinner. [4] The photo of him cooking on the White House lawn during the annual White House Iftar dinner circulated on Twitter, and subsequently went viral. [9] [4] Later that year, he signed a deal to produce a television show entitled Chef in the City. [10] He has since left his job as a White House chef. [11]

In 2020, Rush attended the opening of a Salvation Army in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, whereupon they gave him a celebration of service award. [11]

In 2023, Rush starred in Kitchen Commando , a show about helping struggling restaurants in the DMV Area. It was produced by Gordon Ramsay and premiered on Tubi. [12]

Fitness

Rush is known for his physique and large 24 inch arms that gave him notoriety on social media. [2] As a high school senior he reportedly could bench press 350 pounds (160 kg) while weighing just 150 pounds (68 kg). [4] In 2010, he was reported to be able to bench press 605 pounds (274 kg). [13] Rush states he does 2,222 pushups daily as part of the 22 pushup challenge, with the goal to raise awareness for the roughly 22 veterans who die by suicide every day. [14] [15]

In 2021, Men's Health published an article featuring Rush's daily routine, which included him eating eight meals a day and up to 10,000 calories. [16] Some of his claims were received with skepticism by the professional bodybuilding community. [17]

Personal life

Rush's older brother, Ricky, died of lung cancer in 2016. Rush has been outspoken about the necessity of cancer screening. [18]

In addition to cooking, Rush's other pursuits include ice carving, motivational speaking and life coaching. [2]

Jacques Pépin is a French chef, author, culinary educator, television personality, and artist. Kennedy in the White House and instead took a culinary development job with Howard Johnson's. During his career, he has served in numerous prestigious restaurants, first, in Paris, and then in America. He has appeared on American television and has written for The New York Times, Food & Wine and other publications. He has authored more than 30 cookbooks, some of which have become best sellers. Pépin was a longtime friend of the American chef Julia Child, and their 1999 PBS series Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home won a Daytime Emmy Award. He also holds a BA and a MA from Columbia University in French literature.

Juan-Carlos Cruz is a Dominican American chef and the former host of Calorie Commando and Weighing In on the Food Network. Cruz lost 43 pounds on the Discovery Health Channel show Discovery Health Body Challenge, which encouraged him to change directions from being a pastry chef to do low-calorie cooking. In 2010, Cruz was sentenced to prison for nine years in California for soliciting homeless people to murder his wife, Jennifer Campbell.

In 2019, he successfully ran for the Virginia House of Delegates in district 40, defeating Republican incumbent Tim Hugo. The majority of the pre-redistricted 40th district's population and landmass was located in Fairfax County with a small part in Prince William County. Helmer currently represents the 10th district post-redistricting, which is located entirely in Fairfax County.

Sugar Rush is an American baking reality television series, released on Netflix on July 13, 2018. The series features four professional teams of two competing in a baking competition for a prize of $10,000. Teams of two bakers compete in three rounds. The round one is cupcakes, round two is confections, and round three is cake. The third season, dubbed Sugar Rush: Extra Sweet, is the series' first spin-off season, where if a team wins either a cupcake or confection challenge, they can choose either additional 15-minute time in the final cake challenge or $1,500 prize.

Brooke Williamson is an American chef and restaurateur. She won season 14 of the US television reality cooking competition series Top Chef and has owned several Los Angeles-area restaurants.
