Andrea Jourdan (born 1956) is a Canadian chef, ghost writer and a culinary author with over 100 published cookbooks.
Andrea Jourdan was born in Baie-Comeau, Quebec, Canada. [1] She studied political science and French literature. [2]
After several years in France during which she encountered chefs Joël Robuchon and Bernard Loiseau, [1] Andrea and her husband, American film director Philip Jourdan, opened their first restaurant Chez toi chez moi in Los Angeles. [2] [3] A second restaurant was opened in Montreal. [1] Her love for European cuisine sees her return to Europe, more specifically in Italy, where she hosted the TV series Mangia! Mangia! created for the American market [1] and which aired from 1996 to 1998. [1] [2] She then wrote and self-published her first cookbook in English, The Extra Virgin Olive Oil of Lucca [1] which provides several recipes with the product and details numerous olive oil producers of Lucca in Tuscany.
In 2001, Andrea Jourdan opened a gourmet grocery store in Montreal called Les Petits Plaisirs d'Andrea [3] and closed it due to unfortunate circumstances. [4] Along with TV host and actress Francine Ruel, she participated for 2 seasons (2002-2004) on the summer TV series "L'été c'est péché" (summer is a sin), where several local celebrities collaborated daily discussing aspects of each deadly sin. For author Chrystine Brouillet, chef Ian Perreault and Andrea Jourdan, the theme was gluttony [ citation needed ].
In 2011, Andrea Jourdan published her first cookbook in French, Spoom, Desserts envoûtants [5] which won in 2012 the prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Awards for Best Photography of cookbooks published in French Canada. [6] Followed two best-selling titles on tartares, carpaccios and pies: Tartares et Carpaccios [7] and Tartes en folie.
Since 2013, her Complètement cookbook series has been published by Éditions de l'Homme [8] and titles are e-published in English under the name Absolutely[ citation needed ]. The concept of each title is to propose 30 original recipes around a single subject. [9] Two of her cookbooks have won the coveted Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in 2015: Recevoir toute l'année avec Andrea (Best Entertaining cookbook - French Canada) and Le garde-manger d'Andrea (Best Easy Recipes cookbook - French Canada). [10] Andrea Jourdan is also a weekly columnist to the "Food" section (Saveurs) in the newspaper Journal de Montréal [11] [4] After closing the first gourmet shop Les Petits Plaisirs d'Andrea on Laurier Street, [4] Andrea opened on March 9, 2016, a new gourmet location, Andrea Jourdan La Boutique in Jean-Talon Market, where she shares a variety of original food products imported from all over the world as well as her own unique culinary creations, amongst which her infamous FBV (fraise-basilic-vodka or strawberry basil vodka jam). He operated more than a dozen restaurants across Bangkok, Bordeaux, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, London, Macau, Madrid, Monaco, Montreal, Paris, Shanghai, Singapore, Taipei, Tokyo, and New York City. His restaurants have been acclaimed, and in 2016 he held 31 Michelin Guide stars among them, the most any restaurateur has ever held. He is considered to be one of the greatest chefs of all time.
A financier is a small French almond cake, flavoured with beurre noisette, usually baked in a small mold. Spoom is a type of frothy sorbet made with a lighter sugar syrup, than that required for a true sorbet. As it begins to set, it is mixed with half its volume of Italian meringue. Like sorbet, it is made from fruit juice, wine, sherry or port and served in a tall glass. The name comes from the Italian spuma (foam). In Italy, spumone is a light frothy ice cream made with egg whites, a flavouring and whipped cream.
Marcel Rouff was a Swiss novelist, playwright, poet, journalist, historian, and gastronomic writer. With Curnonsky he wrote the multi-volume work La France gastronomique, guide des merveilles culinaires et des bonnes auberges françaises. He may be best known today for his novel about the fictional gourmet Dodin-Bouffant, La vie et la passion de Dodin-Bouffant, Gourmet, which was first published in 1924 and dedicated to his friend Curnonsky and the great nineteenth-century French gastronome Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin. Rouff's novel was adapted for French television in 1973 by Jean Ferniot and in a 2023 feature-length movie by Trần Anh Hùng, The Taste of Things.
A canelé is a small French pastry flavored with rum and vanilla with a soft and tender custard center and a dark, thick caramelized crust. It takes the shape of a small, striated cylinder up to five centimeters in height with a depression at the top. A specialty of the region around Bordeaux in southwestern France, today it is widely available in pâtisseries in France and abroad.
A chocolate truffle is a French chocolate confectionery traditionally made with a chocolate ganache centre and coated in cocoa powder, coconut, or chopped nuts. He was also ranked the fourth most influential French person in the world by Vanity Fair. Hermé created his own brand in 1998 with Charles Znaty.

Crème brûlée or crème brulée, also known as burnt cream or Trinity cream, and virtually identical to crema catalana, is a dessert consisting of a rich custard base topped with a layer of hardened caramelized sugar. It is normally served slightly chilled; the heat from the caramelizing process tends to warm the top of the custard, while leaving the center cool. The custard base is generally flavored with vanilla in French cuisine, but can have other flavorings. It is sometimes garnished with fruit.
Matthew Locricchio was an American author of cookbooks for young chefs and an actor. His cookbook, The International Cookbook for Kids won the Gourmand World Cookbook Award for Best Book for Children and Family in 2005. Locricchio also authored other cookbooks such as Teen Cuisine, Teen Cuisine: New Vegetarian, The 2nd International Cookbook for Kids, and eight individual titles in the Superchef series.

One of his restaurants, Issaya Siamese Club, has been listed on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, a division of The World's 50 Best Restaurants, and ranked number 39 in 2018. Australian Traveller magazine listed Issaya Siamese Club as one of the world’s hottest restaurants in 2018.

Ifisashi or visashi is a traditional Zambian dish prepared with greens and peanuts. Ifisashi is most often eaten with nshima. It is considered a vegetarian dish, but meat can be added if desired. Ifisashi is a dish best enjoyed hot and is often served as a main course. In Zambia, ifisashi is accompanied by cereals such as millet, sorghum, rice, cassava, or yam when nshima is not available.
