The Parliament of the Republic of South Africa is South Africa's legislature; under the present Constitution of South Africa, the bicameral Parliament comprises a National Assembly and a National Council of Provinces. The current twenty-seventh Parliament was first convened on 22 May 2019.
Fana Mokoena is a South African Film, television and theater actor, and a political activist who served as a Member of Parliament, first as a delegate to the National Council of Provinces representing his home province Free State from May 2014 until August 2016; then later as a full member of the National Assembly of South Africa between August 2016 and October 2020. General elections were held in South Africa on 8 May 2019 to elect a new President, National Assembly and provincial legislatures in each province. These were the sixth elections held since the end of apartheid in 1994 and determined who would become the next President of South Africa.
The 2021 South African municipal elections were held on 1 November 2021, to elect councils for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the country's nine provinces. It is the sixth municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994, held every five years. The previous municipal elections were held in 2016. On 21 April 2021, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the elections will be held on Wednesday, 27 October 2021. It had been recommend by Dikgang Moseneke to delay the municipal elections until 2022. The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) requested the Constitutional Court to support the date postponement. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supported the date postponement while the Democratic Alliance (DA) was against the postponement of the date. The Constitutional Court dismissed the application to postpone the date until 2022, ruling that they had to take place between 27 October and 1 November. On 9 September 2021, the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma announced that the elections would be held on 1 November.
Melikhaya Xego is a South African politician. A member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), he served as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament from 22 May 2019 until 28 January 2023. He is the former Provincial Chairperson of the party.
Mogamad Nazier Paulsen is a Western Cape-based Member of the National Assembly for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). He previously served as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament.
Makoti Sibongile Khawula is a South African politician and previous anti-apartheid activist from KwaZulu-Natal serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party since 2014. Khawula is known for her insistence on speaking Zulu in Parliament.
Thembinkosi Tevin Apleni is a South African politician who has been serving as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces since May 2019. He is one of six permanent delegates from the Eastern Cape. Apleni is a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and serves as the party's deputy provincial chairperson. He was previously the party's provincial secretary.
Mmabatho Olive Mokause is a South African politician serving as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from the Northern Cape since March 2020. She is a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Mokause was a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature from May 2014 to April 2015. She was appointed to the National Assembly of South Africa, the lower house of Parliament, in April 2015 and served in the chamber until January 2018. After the May 2019 general election, she returned to the National Assembly, but resigned in September. In March 2020, she was selected to represent the EFF in the upper house.
Nosipho Makamba-Botya is a South African politician who served as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). She became an MPP in May 2019 and served as the party's chief whip. Makamba-Botya was also the deputy chairperson of the EFF in the province.
Seneanye Betta Lehihi is a South African politician who has been representing the North West in the National Council of Provinces since May 2019. Lehihi is a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters.
Sam Zandamela is a South African politician from Mpumalanga who has served as a member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature since August 2022, and previously from July 2018 to May 2019. A member of the Economic Freedom Fighters party, he previously served as the party's deputy provincial chairperson. Zandamela served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from May 2019 until August 2022.
Makosini Mishack Chabangu is a South African politician from the Free State. He is a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Chabangu was a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2019 until his resignation in February 2023.
Dikgang Mathews Stock is a South African politician from the Northern Cape serving as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2019. Prior to his election to the National Assembly, he served as a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from 2014 to 2019. Stock is a member of the African National Congress.
Mgcini Tshwaku is a South African politician and member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) who has served as the City of Johannesburg's Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Safety and Security since 2023. Prior to serving as Johannesburg city council, he was a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature between 2014 and 2017 and a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2017 until 2023.
Zola Mlenzana is a South African politician. A former member of the Congress of the People, he was elected as a Permanent Delegate to the National Council of Provinces from the Eastern Cape in 2009. In 2014 he resigned from COPE and rejoined the African National Congress. Mlenzana was elected to the National Assembly in 2019.
The 2019 Northern Cape provincial election was held on 8 May 2019 to allocate the 30 seats of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature. Like all the South African provincial elections, it was held on the same day as the South African general election. 21 political parties participated in the election, of which only the African National Congress, Democratic Alliance, Economic Freedom Fighters, and Freedom Front Plus won seats. The ANC lost two seats, but maintained a majority.
Tebogo Josephine Mokwele is a South African politician who served in the National Assembly of South Africa from May to August 2019 as a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters party. Prior to serving in the National Assembly, Mokwele had been a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces from the North West from 2014 to 2019.
Freddie Adams is a South African retired politician. A former member of the New National Party, he joined the National Council of Provinces in 2003. He joined the African National Congress in 2005. After the 2014 election, Adams became a member of the National Assembly. Adams left Parliament at the 2019 election.
