Somerset County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Somerset. Founded in 1875,Somerset was initially regarded as a minor county until official first-class status was acquired in 1895. Somerset has competed in the County Championship since 1891 and has subsequently played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. The club's limited overs team was formerly named the Somerset Sabres,but is now known only as Somerset.
Flowery Field Cricket Club is located in the Flowery Field area of Hyde,Greater Manchester and was formed in 1838. It celebrated its sesquicentennial year in 1988 with a number of special matches.
Colin Leslie McCool was an Australian cricketer who played in 14 Test matches between 1946 and 1950. McCool,born in Paddington,New South Wales,was an all-rounder who bowled leg spin and googlies with a round arm action and as a lower order batsman was regarded as effective square of the wicket and against spin bowling. He made his Test début against New Zealand in 1946,taking a wicket with his second delivery. He was part of Donald Bradman's Invincibles team that toured England in 1948 but injury saw him miss selection in any of the Test matches.

Gary Keedy is a retired English cricketer. A slow-left arm spin bowler,he played one match for Yorkshire in 1994,having graduated from their cricket academy,before moving to Lancashire in 1995. He played for the club until 2012 taking over 500 first-class wickets. Although he had played youth internationals,he never played for the senior England team,although he was named in the squad a few times. In 2011 he was part of the Lancashire squad that won the County Championship for the first time since 1950. Keedy subsequently played one season for Surrey and two for Nottinghamshire before retiring as a professional cricketer in 2015. After studying physiotherapy at the University of Salford,he is currently Nottinghamshire's spin bowling coach and assistant physiotherapist.
Joe Ambler was an English professional first-class cricketer who made eight appearances in county cricket during the 1880s,playing for both Yorkshire and Somerset. A right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium paced bowler,Ambler also kept wicket on occasion.

His career highs involve holding a world record for best Twenty20 bowling figures and first-class innings of 156 against India,in a match before the Test series against England. He is the youngest ever player to play for Malaysia,and has played for England at Under-14,Under-15,Under-16 and Under-18 level. He has also represented England Under-16s at hockey. His elder brother Rohan also played for Malaysia.
Matthew Jonathan Walker,known as Matt Walker,is a retired English professional cricketer who is currently the head coach of Kent County Cricket Club. Walker was appointed as head coach in January 2017 having been assistant coach at the county since the 2014 season. He played for Kent for 16 seasons until 2008 and then for three seasons for Essex until he retired in 2011.
Michael Burns is an English first-class list cricket umpire and former first-class cricketer who played county cricket for Warwickshire and Somerset in a first-class career which spanned from 1992 until 2005. He also played Minor Counties cricket for Cumberland and Cornwall. An adaptable cricketer,he appeared for Cumberland and Warwickshire as a wicket-keeper,but when he moved to Somerset he developed into an aggressive batsman who bowled at medium-pace when needed.
Craig Kieswetter is an English professional golfer and former cricketer who appeared in 71 matches for the England cricket team between 2010 and 2013. Born and raised in South Africa,Kieswetter moved to England to complete his education,and began playing county cricket for Somerset in 2007. Three years later,he made his international debut in a One Day International (ODI) against Bangladesh. A wicket-keeper batsman,he was considered a one-day specialist,and all his international appearances came in ODIs or Twenty20 Internationals.

Graham Iefvion Burgess is a former first-class cricketer who made over 450 appearances for Somerset County Cricket Club between 1966 and 1980. A right-arm medium pace bowler and a right-handed lower middle-order hitter,Burgess is described by Cricinfo as "a good old-fashioned county professional". After his retirement from professional cricket,Burgess qualified as a first-class umpire,and stood in over 500 county cricket matches between 1990 and 2008,when he retired. He also umpired a number of international matches,including Youth Test matches,Youth One Day Internationals and Women's One Day Internationals.
Somerset County Cricket Club competed in four domestic competitions during the 2009 English cricket season:the first division of the County Championship,the Friends Provident Trophy,the first division of the NatWest Pro40 League and the Twenty20 Cup. Through their performance in the Twenty20 Cup,the team qualified for the Champions League Twenty20. They enjoyed a successful season,but fell short of winning any competitions,prompting Director of Cricket Brian Rose to say "We've had enough of being cricket's nearly men."
Luis Michael Reece is an English cricketer who plays for Derbyshire. He is a left-handed batsman who bowls left-arm medium pace. He previously played for Lancashire before joining Derbyshire ahead of the 2017 season.
