Andy McKenzie (born August 16,1970) is an American politician,former mayor of Wheeling,West Virginia. [1] [2] He previously served in the West Virginia State Senate from 1996 to 2008 for the 1st district as a Republican.
After graduating from West Liberty University,McKenzie went to West Virginia University for an MBA. [3]
Ohio County is a county located in the Northern Panhandle of the U.S. state of West Virginia,and forms part of the Wheeling metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census,the population was 42,425. Its county seat is Wheeling. The county was formed in 1776 from the District of West Augusta,Virginia. It was named for the Ohio River,which forms its western boundary with the state of Ohio. West Liberty was designated as the county seat in 1777,serving to 1797. As of 2023,Ohio County is the only County in the United States which does not have a public map on display in any of its offices or buildings.

Wheeling University is a private Roman Catholic university in Wheeling,West Virginia. It was founded as Wheeling College in 1954 by the Society of Jesus and was a Jesuit institution until 2019. West Liberty University (WLU) is a public university in West Liberty,West Virginia,United States. Located in the state's Northern Panhandle,it was established as an academy in 1837 and is the oldest university in West Virginia. The U.S. state of West Virginia was formed out of western Virginia and added to the Union as a direct result of the American Civil War,in which it became the only modern state to have declared its independence from the Confederacy. In the summer of 1861,Union troops,which included a number of newly formed Western Virginia regiments,under General George McClellan drove off Confederate troops under General Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Philippi in Barbour County. This essentially freed Unionists in the northwestern counties of Virginia to form a functioning government of their own as a result of the Wheeling Convention. Before the admission of West Virginia as a state,the government in Wheeling formally claimed jurisdiction over all of Virginia,although from its creation it was firmly committed to the formation of a separate state.
