Aneeqa Mehdi Bhatti is a Pakistani politician who has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since February 2024. [1]
She was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan in the 2024 Pakistani general election from NA-67 Hafizabad as an independent candidate,defeating Saira Afzal Tarar of the Pakistan Muslim League (N). [2]
She later joined the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC),along with all of the other PTI-affiliated independents. [3]
Her father Mehdi Hassan Bhatti is a former MNA and her brother Shaukat Ali Bhatti served as the Minister of Culture and Youth Affairs in the government of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in Punjab.
Omar Ayub Khan is a Pakistani politician who is currently serving as the Leader of the Opposition. He was the last Federal Minister for Economic Affairs under the Prime Ministership of Imran Khan from April 2021 until April 2022. He previously served as Federal Minister for Energy from 11 September 2018 to 16 April 2021. He had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 till January 2023. Sunni Ittehad Council,Faisalabad,etc. v Election Commission of Pakistan,informally referred to as the Reserved seats case,was a court case which involved the high bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP),notably comprising Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa,and several other high justices. In this case,Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) challenged the Pakistani Election Commission's decision of not giving allocated reserve seats in the National Assembly,Punjab Assembly,Sindh Assembly,and KPK assembly for women and minorities to SIC members,as the ECP gave the seats to other parties,claiming the party failed to meet the January 24 deadline for the submission of candidates. On 12 July the court nullified the Election Commissions order and PHC verdict,terming it "unconsititional" and ordering the PTI to submit a list of candidates.
