Datuk Seri Ang Lai Soon PSD SPMJ PNBS DPMJ AMN PBJ PGBK CStJ FRNS is a Malaysian philanthropist, charity director, social and environmental campaigner, and businessman from Kuching, Sarawak. [1] [2] He is the Chair, Commander, and founder of St John Ambulance Sarawak branch of the international first aid charity. [3] He is also President and founder of Sarawak's Cheshire Home, encouraging disabled people to move towards independent living. [4] He is a member of the Order of St John as well as holding a wide range of honours and titles.

Life and work

Ang Lai Soon (later Dato’ Sri Ang Lai Soon) was born in Sarawak. In the years after the Second World War, British officers rented premises from Ang Lai Soon's father, and from their periodicals and newspapers he first learnt about the activities of the St John Ambulance Brigade, as it was then known, and about "the bravery and dedication of the first aiders and brigade members during the war years." [5] In 1971 he began petitioning to launch a Sarawak branch of St John within the now independent Malaysia. Permission was granted and the following year Ang Lai Soon was confirmed as Commissioner. However, over the years, the organisation’s activities have declined over the years and now confined only to Kuching and the surrounding areas. The Sarawak Cheshire Home was founded with the goal of "serving the community by caring for as many of the physically handicapped in our community that our facilities can accommodate" and lately supporting "The Zero Reject poIicy ... starting 2019 – to ensure that children with disabilities are no longer rejected from attending primary schools. Honours and achievements

Datuk Seri Ang Lai Soon is a Knight Commander of the Order of Loyalty to the Royal Family of Malaysia, a Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Crown of Johor, a Knight Commander of the Most Illustrious Order of the Star of Hornbill Sarawak and a Commander of the Order of St. John, in addition to a number of national and international medals and awards. [7] As a social activist he has received attention for various campaigns: appealing for continued social multicultural cohesion, [8] for compulsory CPR teaching in schools, [9] and environmental crisis and deforestation. [10]

No other person has ever received two gallantry awards in the history of the Malaysian Armed Forces.

Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy

The Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy ("SCORE") is an economic region and development corridor covering central Sarawak, a Malaysian State on the island of Borneo. SCORE was launched on 11 February 2008 by the 5th Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. It is one of the five regional development corridors launched throughout Malaysia during the Abdullah Ministry. SCORE is managed by the Regional Corridors Development Authority ("RECODA"), a State Government agency created through an Ordinance of the State Legislative Assembly. In 2014, SCORE accounted for 90% of Sarawak total foreign direct investment of RM 9.6 billion, and about 87.2% were from foreign investors. Chief Minister of Sarawak, Adenan Satem was quoted as saying that 19 projects with more than MYR 32 billion in FDI has been approved so far.

Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is a Malaysian politician. He is currently one of three Deputy Chief Ministers of Sarawak. He was seven-term Member of Parliament of Malaysia for the Betong constituency before deciding not to contest in the 2018 Malaysian general election. He is currently the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Sarawak for the Bukit Saban constituency in Sarawak, representing the United Bumiputera Heritage Party (PBB).

Wong Ho Leng Malaysian politician

Wong Ho Leng was a Malaysian politician. He was the opposition leader of the Sarawak State Assembly from May 2006 to June 2013. He was also the state chairman of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) from 2001 until 10 June 2013. He was the Member of the State Legislative Assembly of Sarawak for the seat of Bukit Assek until his death on 21 June 2014.

The Darjah Utama Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Sarawak is the highest state order in the state of Sarawak. It is conferred to those who rendered excellent service towards the development of the state of Sarawak and Malaysia. The Order was established in 1964, a year after the Sarawak's independence within the formation of Malaysia. The history of the order can be traced back to 1928, where a similar order named Order of the Star of Sarawak was established by the Brooke Raj. However, the revived order has no connection with the previous order, except for the similarity of the name of the order. The motto of the Order is based on the state motto and the current one was adopted in 1988. The design of the order ribbon was changed twice, first in 1973 and again in 1988. The design follows the colors of the Sarawak flag: blue, red and white, and yellow, black and red. Both the Officer of the Star of Sarawak (JBS) and Officer of the Star of Hornbill Sarawak (JBS) share the same necklace design.
