Hugh Angus MacLellan II (born August 24, 1992) is an American rugby union player whose usual playing position is prop. [1] He plays for the Utah Warriors in Major League Rugby (MLR) and has played for the United States national rugby union team.

Youth

MacLellan was born and raised in Michigan and attended St. Francis High School. During his high school years he played with the Traverse City Alliance team. [2]

He played his college rugby with the Davenport University Panthers. At Davenport, he captained the rugby team and led them to a national D1-AA title. [3] MacLellan was captain of the USA Collegiate All-American Team. [2] He also played for Trinity University in Dublin, Ireland and Linwood Rugby Club in Christchurch New Zealand.

Professional and international

MacLellan signed with the Ohio Aviators of PRO Rugby in the spring of 2016, [4] and was described as an emerging young player to watch. [5]

MacLellan played two years with the U.S. under-20 national rugby team. [2] MacLellan played with the USA Selects during the fall of 2014. [3] MacLellan was named as part of the wider training group for the U.S. national team for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, but he tore his ACL, which eliminated his chances of making the U.S. roster. [2] [6] MacLellan debuted for the U.S. national team on April 12, 2016 during the Americas Rugby Championship, and also played for the U.S. during the 2016 mid-year internationals.

PRO Rugby

The Professional Rugby Organization, known as PRO Rugby, was an American professional rugby union competition. PRO began play in April 2016 with five teams and ceased operations by January 2017. The competition was sanctioned by USA Rugby and by World Rugby. This was the first professional rugby competition in North America.

The 2016 PRO Rugby season was the inaugural and only season of the PRO Rugby, contested by teams from the United States. The season ran from April to July 2016. This was the first season of professional rugby union in North America.

Ahmad Kamal Harajly is an American rugby union center, fullback and Lebanon rugby league international. Harajly played for the U.S. national rugby sevens team Wellington, New Zealand tour as an Olympic Games recruitment standout in January 2015. Soon after the Wellington, New Zealand HSBC tour Harajly was then sent to Las Vegas, Nevada where he captained the USA Falcons. He was also a part of the United States national team select tour to Uruguay in 2016. He has played for Ohio Aviators in the US PRO Rugby competition. Ahmad joined the Major League Rugby on a short-term contract playing with New England Free Jacks having started at the outside center position in the Cara Cup against Connacht Rugby, Ulster Rugby, Munster Rugby and Leinster Rugby. Harajly has most recently re-signed with New England Free Jacks for the 2020 season.

San Diego State Aztecs rugby

Founded in 1958, the San Diego State Aztecs rugby club is the rugby club of San Diego State University in San Diego, California. It fields both men's and women's teams, the men compete in Division 1-A in the California conference and the women play in the Pacific Desert conference of Division II. The Aztec men's team won the US National Collegiate Rugby Championship in 1987.
