Anna Howard is an Australian cinematographer and became an accredited member of the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) in 2004. [1] Her work in the Australian film industry began in 1981 and her credits include numerous roles in feature films, documentaries, television and commercials. [2]

Career

After studying cinematography at North Sydney TAFE, she became a camera assistant, working for some of Australia's best cinematographers, including Peter James ASC, ACS and Academy Award winners Russell Boyd ASC, ACS, Andrew Lesnie ASC, ACS, and John Seale ASC, ACS. [3] She worked on the award-winning Australian TV series Rake in 2010 and the next year she was nominated for Best Cinematography in the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards for the film South Solitary , directed by Shirley Barrett.

Her cinematography in Errors of the Human Body was widely praised, as ScreenInvasion Critic Gabriel Ruzin wrote, "Its bleak cinematography is notable and makes impressive work of cold blues, blacks, grays, and the unfriendly sterility of the film’s main setting that deftly complements Geoff’s (Michael Eklund) inner emptiness." [4] Dan Collacott of Liberation Frequency noted, "The film is beautifully shot within the clinical and snowy surrounds of The Max Planck Institute in Dresden...full of hauntingly sterile shades of white and grey." [5] Michał Matuszewski at Transatlantyk Film Festival described the film as, "highlighted by imaginative shots in claustrophobic interiors of the Max Planck Institute." [6]

Russell Stewart Boyd,, ACS, ASC, is an Australian cinematographer. He rose to prominence with his highly praised work on Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975), the first of several collaborations with director Peter Weir. Boyd is a member of both the Australian Cinematographers Society since 1975 and the American Society of Cinematographers since 2004.

John Clement Seale ACS ASC is an Australian cinematographer. He has received numerous accolades including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and an American Society of Cinematographers Award. Seale started his career collaborating with director Peter Weir as both a camera operator and director of photography gaining a reputation as one of Australia's leading cinematographers. He then earned international prominence working with directors such as Anthony Minghella, Wolfgang Petersen, Ron Howard, Sydney Pollack, and George Miller.

Richard Howard KlineASC was an American cinematographer, known for his collaborations with directors Richard Fleischer and Michael Winner. He was a second-generation filmmaker, being the son of cinematographer Benjamin H. Kline and the nephew of ASC co-founder Phil Rosen. He was nominated twice for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography, for Camelot (1968) and King Kong (1976).

Dion Beebe A.C.S. A.S.C. is an Australian–South African cinematographer. Originally from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, his family moved to Cape Town, South Africa, in 1972. Dion studied cinematography at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School from 1987 to 1989. Beebe was nominated for an Academy Award and a BAFTA for his work on Rob Marshall's Chicago, and won the 2006 Academy Award for his work on the director's later Memoirs of a Geisha. He is known for his use of stylized, highly saturated colour palettes and for his experimental use of high-speed digital video on Michael Mann's Collateral and Miami Vice. He is also a member of the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) and the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC). Dion was inducted into the ACS' Hall of Fame at the National Awards on 16 May 2020.

Owen Roizman was an American cinematographer. He received five Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography, for the films The French Connection (1971), The Exorcist (1973), Network (1976), Tootsie (1982), and Wyatt Earp (1994). He served on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and was president of the American Society of Cinematographers.

Dean Semler ACS ASC is an Australian cinematographer and film director. Over his career, he has worked as a cinematographer, camera operator, director, second unit director, and assistant director. He is a three-time recipient of the AACTA Award for Best Cinematography and an Academy Award winner. He is a member of both the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) and the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC). In 2002 he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).

Mandy Walker, ACS, ASC, is an Australian cinematographer. She is best known for the films Mulan, Hidden Figures and Elvis, the latter of which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography. She was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2021 Queen's Birthday Honours.
