Anna Weidel (born 25 May 1996) is a German biathlete. She made her debut in the Biathlon World Cup in 2018. [1]
Anna Weidel made her international debut at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Presque Isle, where she won silver medals in both the sprint and pursuit events and finished sixth in the individual race. Due to her performance, she was classified in the C national team squad. At the end of 2014, Weidel debuted in the IBU Cup in Obertilliach during a sprint race, immediately earning points with a 31st-place finish. In her second race in Duszniki-Zdrój, she narrowly missed the top-10, finishing 12th in a sprint. She followed this with a 28th-place finish in another sprint at the same venue. During the World Team Challenge at Arena AufSchalke, Anna Weidel won the junior competition alongside Marco Groß. [2]
At the 2015 Junior World Championships in Minsk-Raubichi, she competed in the junior category for the first time but was unable to match her previous year's results in the individual events, with her best finish being 19th in the individual race. However, in the relay event, she secured a bronze medal with teammates Marie Heinrich and Helene-Therese Hendel, behind France and Russia. That same year, she won the German Team Challenge at Schalke again, this time with Dominic Reiter. [3] In 2016, at the Junior European Championships in Pokljuka, her only top-10 finish was a 10th place in the individual race.
During the 2016–17 IBU Junior Cup, Weidel achieved her first victory by winning the pursuit in Hochfilzen. At the Junior European Championships in Nové Město na Moravě, she claimed the individual title and finished 8th in the pursuit after placing 23rd in the sprint. At the 2017 Junior World Championships in Osrblie, Weidel earned a bronze medal in the individual race behind Megan Bankes and Julia Schwaiger, placed 12th in the sprint, and narrowly missed another medal with a 4th-place finish in the pursuit. She then secured a silver medal in the relay event alongside Vanessa Voigt and Sophia Schneider, finishing behind Norway. Additionally, she won the pursuit and individual standings in the IBU Junior Cup and ranked fifth overall in the series. These performances earned her another appearance in the IBU Cup in Kontiolahti in March, where she impressed with a 4th place in the sprint and her first IBU Cup victory in the pursuit.
After strong performances in the first two sprint races of the 2018–19 IBU Cup, she was nominated for the initial World Cup races of the 2018/19 winter season. In her first World Cup race, the 15 km individual event in Pokljuka, she finished 66th with four shooting misses. However, in the following sprint event, she achieved her first top-10 World Cup finish, placing 10th with flawless shooting. She followed this with an 11th place in the pursuit. Despite these promising results, she could not maintain the same level of performance in subsequent World Cups in Hochfilzen and Oberhof and competed primarily in the IBU Cup for the rest of the season. Highlights included a 10th place at the 2019 Biathlon European Championships in Minsk and a victory in the supersprint in Otepää, alongside other finishes outside the top-10.
On January 19, 2022, the German Olympic Sports Confederation announced that Weidel was nominated for the 2022 Winter Olympics. [4] Earlier, she had achieved partial qualification during the 2021/22 Biathlon World Cup. However, she did not compete at the Olympics.

Magdalena "Lena" Holzer is a retired German professional biathlete. She is the most successful woman of all time at Biathlon World Championships and a two-time Olympic gold medalist. At the age of 21, she became the youngest Overall World Cup winner in the history of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). With 34 World Cup wins, Holzer is ranked second all-time for career victories on the Biathlon World Cup tour. She has won the Overall World Cup title three times, in 2007–08, in 2009–10 and her final season in 2011–12. At only 25 years old, Holzer retired from the sport in March 2012, citing a lack of motivation and her desire for a normal life.
Timothy John Burke is a retired U.S. biathlete and coach. On December 20, 2009, he became the first ever US biathlete to lead the overall Biathlon World Cup. During his career he competed in 11 Biathlon World Championships and four Winter Olympic Games, won a World Championship silver and took six podiums in World Cup races.
Simone Hye-Soon Hauswald is a former German biathlete and Winter Olympics bronze medalist. In 2008, she won her first single World Cup Race. Hauswald retired after the 2009–10 season.
Ekaterina Valeryevna Iourieva is a Russian former biathlete and 2008 World Champion in the 15 km individual. She was disqualified for 10 years for doping violations.
Jakov Fak is a Slovenian anthlete of Croat origin. biathlete competing for Slovenia since 2010. As a member of the Croatian biathlon team, Fak won bronze medals at the 2009 World Championships and at the 2010 Winter Olympics, where he was also the Croatian flag bearer at the opening ceremony. In 2010, Fak switched his citizenship and started competing for Slovenia. Fak won four medals at the World Championships with the Slovenian team, including two gold and a silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics. In addition, Fak has eight victories in the World Cup.
Miriam Neureuther is a former German biathlete and cross-country skier. She has won an Olympic silver medal in cross-country skiing and two biathlon world championship titles, all in team events. Noted for her fast skiing performances, she won two junior world championship titles in biathlon in 2008 and 2009. Gössner was called up for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009, where she was part of Germany's cross-country team claiming silver in the 4 × 5 kilometre relay.
Tarjei Bø is a Norwegian professional biathlete. Awarded Olympic gold medals, World Championship gold medals and World Cup victories from 2010 to 2022. Bø debuted in the Biathlon World Cup on 26 March 2009 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. In the 2010 Winter Olympics, he earned his first gold medal in the 4 × 7.5 km biathlon relay. On 10 December 2010 he won the World Cup sprint race in Hochfilzen, his first world cup victory. He also won the following pursuit race and anchored the winning relay team. Bø is the older brother of biathlete Johannes Thingnes Bø.
Martin Fourcade is a retired French biathlete. He is a six-time Olympic champion, a thirteen-time World Champion and a seven-time winner of the Overall World Cup. As of February 2018, he is the most successful French Winter Olympian of all time. Fourcade is the all-time biathlon record holder of overall World Cup titles with seven big crystal globes and he's also the all-time record holder of the most consecutive Major Championships titles with at least one non-team gold medal in every major championship from 2011 to 2018.
Evgeniy Aleksandrovich Garanichev is a former Russian biathlete, who has been competing on the World Cup circuit since the 2010–11 season. He has had five Top 10 finishes in World Cup races in individual races. He got his first win in individual races on 3 February 2012.
Dmytro Pidruchnyi is a Ukrainian biathlete. He participated at 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics. In March 2022, Pidruchnyi joined the Ukrainian National Guard to fight during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Hidenori Isa is a former Japanese biathlete. He was one of the top male Japanese biathletes from 2000 until his retirement in 2014.
Laura Dahlmeier is a retired German biathlete. Dahlmeier started in her first world cup races in the 2012/13 season. In 2014, she participated in the Winter Olympics in Sochi. She won a record of five gold medals at the World Championships of 2017. In 2018 she became the first woman to win the biathlon sprint and pursuit in the same Olympics. During her career she has won a total of two golds and one bronze at the Olympics, seven gold medals, three silver medals and five bronze medals at World Championships, one overall World Cup and two discipline World Cup titles. Dahlmeier announced her retirement from competition in May 2019, at the age of 25. In October 2019, she released a children's book.
