Anne Elliott Hodges-Copple is sixth and current Suffragan Bishop of North Carolina. [1]

Biography

Anne graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University in 1979. After working as a community organizer for several years following graduation, she earned a Master of Divinity from Pacific School of Religion in 1984. She was ordained deacon in 1987 and priest in 1988, and served as assistant of St Luke's Church in Durham, North Carolina until 1992. She then became the Episcopal chaplain to Duke University until 2005, when she returned to St Luke's Church as rector.

Anne was elected on January 25, 2013, as Suffragan Bishop of North Carolina. She was consecrated as a bishop on June 15, 2013. [2] From November 1, 2015, until July 15, 2017, she served as Bishop Pro Tempore of the Diocese of North Carolina, due to the resignation of Michael Bruce Curry to become the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. She returned to bishop suffragan upon the consecration of Samuel Sewall Rodman III as 12th Bishop Diocesan of North Carolina. Hodges-Copple is the first female bishop in the Diocese of North Carolina. [3] On February 22, 2022 she announced her retirement as of December 2022. [4]

Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina

The Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina is a diocese of the Episcopal Church within Province IV that encompasses central North Carolina. Founded in 1817, the modern boundaries of the diocese roughly corresponds to the portion of North Carolina between I-77 in the west and I-95 in the east, including the most populous area of the state. Raleigh, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and Durham are the largest cities in the diocese. The diocese originally covered the entirety of the state, until the Diocese of East Carolina which stretches to the Atlantic was formed in 1883, and the Diocese of Western North Carolina which lies to the west extending into the Appalachian Mountains was formed in 1922.

The Episcopal Diocese of Taiwan is the Anglican diocese in Taiwan and a member diocese of the Episcopal Church of the United States. It was established in 1954, five years after Chinese Episcopalians fled from mainland China to Taiwan following the Chinese Communist Revolution in 1949.

Episcopal Church in South Carolina

Chilton R. Knudsen

Chilton Abbie Richardson Knudsen is a bishop of the Episcopal Church. Knudsen served as the diocesan bishop of Maine for a decade (1997-2008). Upon retiring from that position, she then served as interim bishop in the Diocese of Lexington and as assistant bishop in the Diocese of New York (2013-2014) and the Diocese of Long Island (2014-2015). In May 2015, she began serving as assistant bishop in the Diocese of Maryland. On December 6, 2018, Knudsen announced her resignation from that temporary position after accepting a position as assisting bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington as of February 20, 2019. In August, 2021 she was appointed assisting bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago due to Bishop Paula Clark having to delay her consecration for health reasons.

J. Gillespie Armstrong

Joseph Gillespie Armstrong was suffragan bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania from 1949 until November 7, 1960, when he was elected coadjutor. He succeeded Rt. Rev. Oliver J. Hart as Bishop of Pennsylvania when Bishop Hart retired on July 19, 1963. However Bishop Armstrong's diocesan episcopate only lasted nine months before his death.

Julie Anne Conalty is a British Anglican bishop. Since 19 July 2021, she has been the Bishop of Birkenhead, one of two suffragan bishops of the Church of England Diocese of Chester. She previously served as Archdeacon of Tonbridge in the Diocese of Rochester since 2017.
