Anne Spielberg (born December 25, 1949) is an American screenwriter and producer. Best known as the co-producer and co-writer of the screenplay for the 1988 movie Big , she is the younger sister of film director Steven Spielberg. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Early life

Born on December 25, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Anne Spielberg is a daughter of the late Arnold Spielberg, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, and the late Leah (Posner) Spielberg, and also the sister of filmmaker Steven Spielberg, Nancy Spielberg and Sue Spielberg. [5]

Career

After working for her brother's production company, Amblin Entertainment, Spielberg and her neighbor Gary Ross co-wrote the movie Big in 1988, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. She was also a co-producer on the film, along with noted television and film producer James L. Brooks. Spielberg was an uncredited co-writer of the film Small Soldiers (1998); it was inspired by the combination of Child's Play (1988) and Toy Story (1995). [6]

Her life, and the lives of her siblings, were depicted in Steven Spielberg's 2022 semi-autobiographical film, The Fabelmans , with her portrayed as the fictional Reggie Fabelman, the first younger sister of the main character Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LaBelle). She was played by Julia Butters. [7] [8]

The Fabelmans (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is the score album to the 2022 film of the same name, directed by Steven Spielberg. The musical score is composed and conducted by John Williams, in his 31st film collaboration with Spielberg and the 50th anniversary of their first film, and also, Williams' last film he would score (along with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) before retirement, a decision he would later retract. A young American Jewish teenage boy who aspires to become a filmmaker, he is loosely based on Spielberg himself and was portrayed in the film by Gabriel LaBelle, who won the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Young Performer for his performance, while Mateo Zoryan Francis-DeFord portrayed the character as a child.

Nancy Spielberg is an American film producer who has produced multiple documentaries on Jewish and Israeli history. She is the third youngest sister of director and producer Steven Spielberg.
