Annelies Knoppers is a former college volleyball coach. She coached the Michigan State women's volleyball team for 11 seasons, compiling an overall record of 250-197-18. She was Michigan State's head coach when the Big Ten Conference began sponsoring women's volleyball.

Coaching career

Michigan State

Knoppers was the second ever coach of the Michigan State women's volleyball team, and coached for the Spartans for eleven seasons. [1]

Her head coaching career debuted in 1974, where the team opened with a tournament sponsored by the Michigan Women's Volleyball Association. [2] In her second year of coaching, Michigan State qualified for the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) championships, one of 24 teams to be invited to the tournament. [3] The team finished with an overall record of 38-2, won the Big Ten tournament and the state tournament, and finished third in the Midwest Regionals. [4] The team finished ninth in the AIAW championships. She returned eight of those players to compete the next year. [5]

In the 1976 season, Knoppers Spartans finished the season 35-6. They improved on their 1975 finish in the Midwest Regionals, this time securing a win. They were seeded eighth in the 24 team AIAW tournament. [3]

Knoppers finished her career at Michigan State with a record of 250-197-18. [1] She retired to pursue a teaching career. [6]

The Michigan State Spartans are the athletic teams that represent Michigan State University. The school's athletic program includes 25 varsity sports teams. Michigan State Spartans mens basketball NCAA Division 1 Basketball Program

The Michigan State Spartans men's basketball team represents Michigan State University (MSU) and compete in the Big Ten Conference of NCAA Division I College basketball. Their home games are played at the Breslin Student Events Center. Tom Izzo has been the head coach since 1995. The Spartans have won two NCAA championships and 15 Big Ten Conference Championships. Their two National Championships came in the 1979 NCAA Tournament and the 2000 NCAA Tournament. The 1979 National Championship Game was the most watched college basketball game in history, with 35.11 million television viewers. The 1979 National Championship team was coached by Jud Heathcote and included tournament MVP Magic Johnson, Greg Kelser and Jay Vincent. The Spartans defeated the previously unbeaten Indiana State Sycamores, led by future Hall of Famer Larry Bird. The 2000 National Championship team defeated the Florida Gators men's basketball team in the final. The team was coached by Tom Izzo and led by players Morris Peterson, Charlie Bell, Jason Richardson and tournament MVP Mateen Cleaves.

The Michigan State Spartans men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team that represents Michigan State University (MSU). The team plays at the Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Michigan, on the MSU campus. The current head coach is Danton Cole, who took over coaching duties on April 11, 2017, after Tom Anastos resigned. Michigan State currently competes in the Big Ten Conference.

1999–2000 Michigan State Spartans mens basketball team

The 1999–2000 Michigan State Spartans men's basketball team represented Michigan State University in the 1999–2000 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team played their home games at Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan. They were coached by Tom Izzo, in his fifth year as head coach, and were members of the Big Ten Conference. The Spartans finished the season 32–7, 13–3 to win a share of the Big Ten regular season championship for the third consecutive year. As the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, they defeated Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois to win the tournament championship for the second consecutive year. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. As the No. 1 seed in the Midwest region, they defeated Valparaiso and Utah to advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the third consecutive year. They then defeated Syracuse and Iowa State to advance to the Final Four for the second consecutive year. After a win in the National Semifinal over fellow Big Ten foe Wisconsin, MSU won the National Championship over Florida. The win marked the school's second National Championship and Izzo's only championship to date.

Michigan State University Men's Club Volleyball was founded in 1989. It is currently a part of MIVA, and competes in the NCVF National Championships. The club currently has four teams, Green, White, Posse, and Greenhorns who all practice in the IM West Sports Arena on the campus of Michigan State University. The Green team is coached by Sante Perrelli. The club also hosts the Back to the Hardwood Classic which is the biggest preseason tournament in the country.

1956 Michigan State Spartans football team

The 1956 Michigan State Spartans football team was an American football team that represented Michigan State University in the 1956 Big Ten Conference football season. In their third season under head coach Duffy Daugherty, the Spartans compiled a 7–2 overall record and were ranked No. 9 in the final AP Poll and No. 10 in the final Coaches Poll.

The 1936 Michigan State Spartans football team represented Michigan State College in the 1936 college football season. In their fourth season under head coach Charlie Bachman, the Spartans compiled a 6–1–2 record, outscored their opponents by a total of 143 to 40, and won their annual rivalry game with Michigan by a 21 to 7 score. In inter-sectional play, the team defeated Carnegie Tech (7-0), Kansas (41-0), and Arizona (7-0) and tied Boston College (13-13). The team's only loss was to Marquette by a 13 to 7 score.

1991–92 Michigan State Spartans mens basketball team

The 1991–92 Michigan State Spartans men's basketball team represented Michigan State University in the 1991–92 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team played their home games at Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan and were members of the Big Ten Conference. They were coached by Jud Heathcote in his 16th year at Michigan State. The Spartans finished the season with a record of 22–8, 11–7 to finish in third place in Big Ten play. They received an at-large bid as a No. 5 seed to the NCAA Tournament, the school's third consecutive trip to the Tournament. There they beat Southwest Missouri State before losing to Cincinnati in the Second Round in a rematch of an earlier Spartan win.

The 2016–17 Michigan State Spartans women's basketball team represented Michigan State University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Spartans, led by tenth-year head coach Suzy Merchant, played their home games at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan and were members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 21–12, 9–7 in Big Ten play to finish in a tie for sixth place. In the Big Ten Tournament, they beat Wisconsin and Michigan before losing in the semifinals to Maryland. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament as a No. 8 seed where the lost in the First Round to Arizona State. Head Coach Suzy Merchant took a medical leave of absence of January 17, 2017 after fainting on the sidelines during a game against Illinois. She also missed the following game against Purdue days after fainting.

1985–86 Michigan State Spartans mens basketball team

The 1985–86 Michigan State Spartans men's basketball team represented Michigan State University in the 1985–86 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team played their home games at Jenison Field House in East Lansing, Michigan and were members of the Big Ten Conference. They were coached by Jud Heathcote in his 10th year at Michigan State. The Spartans finished with a record of 23–8, 12–6 to finish in third place in Big Ten play. The Spartans received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament as a No. 5 seed where they defeated Washington and Georgetown before losing to No. 1-seeded Kansas in the Sweet Sixteen.

The 1981 AIAW Women's College World Series was held in Norman, Oklahoma on May 21–24. Sixteen Division I college softball teams met in the next-to-last AIAW fastpitch softball tournament of that organization's history. After playing their way through the regular season and regional tournaments, the 16 advancing teams met for the AIAW Division I college softball championship.

The Michigan State Spartans women's volleyball team was founded in 1973.

Ginger Mayson was a college volleyball coach. She started her coaching career at the University of South Alabama. Mayson became an assistant coach for Kansas State for the 1985 season, then started an eight-year career as the head coach of the Michigan State Spartans volleyball team.

Cathy George is a college women's volleyball coach. She began her coaching career at North Dakota State, coaching there for two years. She moved on to coach Texas-Arlington and made the NCAA Tournament twice with the team. She coached Western Michigan next, appearing in the NCAA Tournament in 2000 and receiving MAC Coach of the Year. George is currently the head coach of the Michigan State Spartans.

The 2017–18 Michigan State Spartans women's basketball team represented Michigan State University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Spartans, led by 11th-year head coach Suzy Merchant, played their home games at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan as members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 19–14, 7–9 in Big Ten play to finish in a tie for ninth place. They lost in the second round of the Big Ten Women's Tournament to Indiana. They received an at-large bid to the Women's National Invitation Tournament where they defeated Cincinnati and Toledo before losing to South Dakota in the third round.
