The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, commonly known by its initialism NRK, is the Norwegian government-owned radio and television public broadcasting company, and the largest media organisation in Norway. All other TV channels, broadcast from Norway, were banned between 1960 and 1981. NRK broadcasts three national TV channels and thirteen national radio channels on digital terrestrial television, digital terrestrial radio and subscription television. All NRK radio stations are streamed online at NRK.no, which also offers an extensive TV service. NRK is a founding member of the European Broadcasting Union.

Eight entries ultimately qualified to compete in the final on 9 February 2008 where the winner was determined over two rounds of voting. In the first round of voting, a public televote exclusively selected the top four entries to advance to the competition's second round—the Gold Final. In the second round of voting, "Hold On Be Strong" performed by Maria Haukaas Storeng was selected as the winner following the combination of votes from three regional jury groups and a public televote.
Grethe Gynnild Johnsen is a Norwegian journalist. From 2004-08 she was responsible for news production at the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation headquarters in Oslo. That includes Dagsrevyen, Dagsnytt, the news channel NRK2, NRK Alltid Nyheter and the news production for nrk.no. Currently she is director for all regional offices for NRK.
