Anthony Akol is a Ugandan politician and a member of the Ugandan Parliament representing Kilak North constituency. He was elected as the leader of Acholi Parliamentary Group (APG) in July 2021 for a tenure of two and half years. [1] [2]

Political career

Akol was elected to the parliament on the ticket of the Forum for Democratic Change and serves on the committees on Human Right, Finance and Planning and Economic Development. In July 2021, he was elected the leader of the Acholi Parliamentary Group (APG) with 11 votes defeating Omoro District Woman Member of Parliament, Catherine Lamwaka who scored 10 votes. [3] On 30 January 2020, Akol was involved in a fisticuffs with his colleague representing Aruu County, Odonga Otto in the pigeon hall lobby of parliament. [4] After the fight, Akol told the press that he only defended himself against the punch of his colleague, [5] describing himself as a heavyweight and saying that if he had punched Otto he would have been down. In April 2019, Akol's vehicle hit a stray cow crossing the highway in Wakisanyi village in Kiryandongo district resulting in an accident injuring him. [6]

Beatrice Atim Anywar, also Betty Anywar,, is a Ugandan politician who serves as the Member of Parliament representing the Kitgum Municipality Constituency in the 10th Ugandan Parliament. Effective 14 December 2019, she concurrently serves as the State Minister for the Environment, in the Ugandan Cabinet. She replaced Dr. Mary Goretti Kitutu, who was appointed Minister of Energy and Minerals, in the same cabinet.

Jacob L'Okori Oulanyah is a Ugandan agricultural economist, lawyer and politician, who serves as the Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda. He was elected to that position on 24 May 2021, after defeating the former Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga. He served as Deputy Speaker of the Ugandan parliament, from May 2011 until May 2021. Oulanyah is also the member of parliament representing the Omoro County constituency, Omoro District, Acholi sub-region, in the Uganda's Northern Region.

Nabisunsa Girls Secondary School is an all-girl boarding school located in Kampala, Uganda. The school was founded in 1954 by Prince Badru Kakungulu, a Buganda Royal, in 1954, to offer post-primary education to the Muslim girl-child. Today it admits girls of all faiths.

Paul Omiat Amoru is a Ugandan journalist, public speaker, and politician. He is the elected Member of Parliament for Dokolo North County and a representative of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), the ruling political party in Uganda.

Makmot Edward Otto is a Ugandan-Canadian barrister, solicitor, notary public, lawyer and politician. He is the elected Member of Parliament for Agago County. He his an independent candidate. He succeeded John Okot Amos, who was preceded by the former Leader of Opposition Professor Ogenga Latigo and Justice Owiny Dollo. He is the vice chairperson of the Committee on Rules, Privileges And Discipline and a member of the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee in the 10th Parliament.

Philip Polly Okin Ojara is a Ugandan social worker and politician. He is the elected member of parliament for Chua West County, Kitgum District, and is an Independent politician who closely associates with FDC, the main opposition party in Uganda. He is a member the Caucus of Independent MPs and the Opposition Caucus and also serves as the vice chairperson of the Committee on Local Government Accounts and as a member of the Appointments Committee and the Committee on Agriculture in the 10th Parliament of Uganda.

Anna Ebaju Adeke is a Ugandan lawyer and politician. She is a Member of Parliament representing Women in Soroti District, in the 11th Parliament (2021–2016). She previously served as the parliamentary representative of the National Female Youth Constituency in the 10th parliament, (2016–2021).

Anita Annet Among is a Ugandan accountant, lawyer and politician who serves as the Deputy Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda (2021–2026). She also concurrently serves as the elected member of parliament for the Bukedea District Women Constituency, the same position she held in the 10th parliament (2016–2021). She was in FDc party before she joined the ruling movement where she was voted as the Deputy speaker of the 11th parliament.

Molly Lanyero is a Ugandan politician who was elected to the 10th Parliament (2016-2021), as a District Woman Representative representing Lamwo District.

Samuel Odonga Otto,, is a lawyer in Uganda, who serves as the Uganda Law Review for Aruu County Constituency in Pader District, in the Northern Region of that county. He has continuously represented that constituency since 2001.

Acholi people

The Acholi people are a Luo nation found in Magwi County in South Sudan and Northern Uganda, including the districts of Agago, Amuru, Gulu, Kitgum, Nwoya, Lamwo, Pader and Omoro District. Approximately 1.47 million Acholi were counted in the Uganda census of 2014, and 45,000 more were living in South Sudan in 2000.

Achiro Lucy Otim, commonly referred to as Lucy Achiro Otim is a female Ugandan politician and a Gender Specialist. She is the district woman representative for Aruu North County consistency, Pader district in the 10th Parliament. Achiro belongs to an independent political party at the Parliament of Uganda. She won the parliamentary seat running as an independent candidate in 2016. Her her tenure as member of parliament was cut short when the Ugandan supreme court nullified her election for non-compliance with electoral laws because the electoral commission failed to carry out a vote recount after she had won with a two vote margin, beating James Nabinson Kidega of the National Resistance Movement (NRM). However, she returned as member of parliament after being re-elected Aruu north member of parliament in the April 2017 election by again beating Kidega, this time 64 percent to 32 percent.

Beatrice Akello Akori is a Ugandan politician. She is a woman member of parliament in the eleventh Parliament of Uganda (2021–26), serving as a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement party.

Monicah Amoding is a Ugandan politician, lawyer and social worker, who served as the district woman representative of Kumi District, in the 10th Ugandan Parliament, (2016–2021), as a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement political party.

Amos John Okot is a Ugandan pastor, politician and member of Ugandan parliament representing Agago North on the ticket of National Resistance Movement (NRM). He was first elected in 2011 to the 9th parliament but failed to secure re-election in 2016. He was re-elected to the parliament in the 2021 general elections.

Morris Ogenga Latigo is a Ugandan professor of agriculture, Academic and politician of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who was the leader of opposition in the Ugandan Parliament from 2006 to 2010.

Gilbert Olanya is a Ugandan politician currently serving as a member of the Ugandan Parliament representing Kilak South on the ticket of the Forum for Democratic Change.
