Anthony Furey is a Canadian journalist and political commentator, who ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Toronto in the 2023 Toronto mayoral by-election, placing fourth behind Olivia Chow with 4.95% of the vote, [1] and then again for city councillor in a 2024 Don Valley West municipal by-election on November 4, 2024, losing to Rachel Chernos Lin​. [2] He is a conservative columnist and commentator and was formerly an executive and columnist with the right-wing True North Centre for Public Policy. [3] Since 2023, he has been executive director of Frank Stronach's foundation. [4]

Furey has written for various publications, including the National Post , the Toronto Sun , the Huffington Post and Maclean's. He has also been a talk radio host on Sirius XM and 640 Toronto. [4]

Controversies

Furey has been criticized for his views on immigration and Islam. Some statements attributed to him have been challenged for promoting misconceptions and stereotypes. [5] [6]

Rachel Chernos Lin is a Canadian politician. She is currently a Toronto City Councillor and previously was the chair of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). On 4 November 2024, she won a by-election to replace the late Jaye Robinson on Toronto City Council. She represents Ward 15 Don Valley West. In 2018, her political career started when she was elected as a TDSB school trustee for Ward 11. She was re-elected as the Ward 11 trustee in the October 2022 municipal election. On 15 November 2022 she was elected as the TDSB’s chair. While a school board trustee, she led the board to join a class-action lawsuit against social media companies because of how their products can potentially affect students negatively. Chernos Lin lives in the Don Valley West riding with her husband and children. She is Jewish and her husband is Asian.
