Anthony Hrysanthos (born 28 November 1995) is an Australian water polo player of Greek descent who plays as a goalkeeper for Australia men's national water polo team. He made his debut appearance at the Olympics representing Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics. [1]
His grandparents were born in Greece. He was born in Australia and spent most of his life in Australia. Hrysannthos was educated at Newington College completing is Higher School Certificate in 2013. [2] After leaving school he was coach of the Newington 1sts water polo team. [3] He gained Greek citizenship during his stay in Greece when he was signed up to play for Greek club Vouliagmeni in 2018 prior to the start of 2018/19 season. [4]
He was part of Australian team which finished at eighth position in the 2015 FINA Youth World Championships. [5]
He made his senior international debut for Australia in 2017 and was selected to the national water polo squad to represent Australia at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships. [6] He was part of the Australian team which won silver at the 2018 FINA Men's Water Polo World League. He played a key role in helping Sydney University Lions in winning the 2018 Australian Waterpolo League title whereas he saved three penalties in the final. [7]
Hrysanthos was picked in the water polo Sharks squad to compete in the men's water polo tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics. [8] Coached by Elvis Fatović, [9] the team finished joint fourth on points in their pool but their inferior goal average meant they finished fifth overall and out of medal contention. From 2018 to 2019, Hrysanthos went to Greece to play professionally for NC Vouliagmeni. In the playoff series against Olympiacos CFP, Hrysanthos helped to win through a penalty shootout. For Olympiacos, it was the first loss in a domestic league game in around 150 games. [12]
NO Vouliagmeni or "NOV" is a major aquatic sports club, founded by local sportsmen in 1937 in the seaside resort of Vouliagmeni, Athens, Greece. The club is located on the eastern edge of the Mikro Kavouri peninsula, adjacent to the Astir Palace Hotel and overlooking the bay, town and lake of Vouliagmeni.
Elvis Fatović is a Croatian professional water polo coach and former player. He is currently the head coach of the Club Natació Atlètic-Barceloneta senior men's team.
Richie Campbell is an Australian water polo player who competed in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. He has played professionally in Barcelona, Spain and currently plays for the UNSW Wests Magpies in the Australian National Water-polo League. Campbell competed at the Junior World Cup 2005 and 2007. He won a bronze medal in the World League super finals in 2007.
Rhys Howden is an Australian water polo player who competed in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. He was the joint top sprinter at the 2012 Olympics, with 19 sprints won. He was also the top sprinter at the 2016 Olympics, with 18 sprints won.
Joel Dennerley is an Australian water polo player. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed for the Australia men's national water polo team in the men's event. He is 6 ft 4.5 inches tall.

Alexandros Evgenios Gounas is a Greek water polo player. He is member of the Greece men's national water polo team since 2008 and won a bronze medal at the 16th FINA World Championships and competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He plays for Greek powerhouse Olympiacos, with whom he won the 2017–18 LEN Champions League in Genoa. Moreover, in his collection are 6 Greek Championships and 6 Greek Cups in which he was voted Most Valuable Player four times, with them being the 2011–2012 NC Vouliagmeni, 2013–2014 Olympiacos, 2017–2018 Olympiacos, and 2018–2019 Olympiacos.
The 16th edition of the Men's FINA Water Polo World Cup were held in Berlin, Germany from September 11 to September 16, 2018. Like the final tournament of the 2007 FINA Men's Water Polo World League all matches were contested in the Europasportpark swimming pool.
