Anton Marik (born 1940) is an Austrian conductor who made a career with orchestras and choirs in Germany.

Career

Born in Vienna, Marik had been a member of the Vienna Boys' Choir and received his basic musical training there. [1] After graduating from the Humanistisches Gymnasium he studied conducting (among others with Hans Swarowsky), composition and pipe organ at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. [2] Already during his studies, Marik worked as a piano accompanist for soloists of the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Philharmonic and gained first experiences as a choir and orchestra conductor. [2]

Marik began his career in 1965 as chief conductor of the Vienna Ice Revue. [3] His first theatre engagements led him to the Stadttheater Klagenfurt and the Landestheater Linz, [3] where he rose from solorepetitor to choir director and finally to first Kapellmeister. [2] In 1975 he took up a position as first Kapellmeister at the Theater Bielefeld, [3] then went in this function to the Staatstheater Kassel, [1] before he held the same position with the Dortmunder Philharmoniker from 1985 to 1989. This was followed by employment as Generalmusikdirektor (GMD) at the Staatstheater Kassel [2] until Marik returned to Dortmund in 1994, where he was first appointed deputy GMD and from 1996 to 2000 GMD of Dortmund. [1] From August 2001 to July 2004 he was chief conductor of the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln. [3] He then became music director of the Theater Koblenz. [2]

In addition, Marik has been engaged as a guest conductor at home and abroad, participated in CD recordings and recordings for various radio stations, and participated in numerous festivals, such as the Internationales Brahms Festival in Milan, the Beethoven Festival in Budapest and the Koblenz Festungsspiele on the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. A new opera house opened in 1966, replacing an earlier facility which opened in 1904 and was destroyed during World War I. The WDR Rundfunkchor Köln is the choir of the German broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), based in Cologne. It was founded in 1947. The choir premiered works by contemporary composers including Arnold Schoenberg's unfinished opera Moses und Aron in 1954, Karlheinz Stockhausen's Momente, Luigi Nono's Il canto sospeso, Bernd Alois Zimmermann's Requiem für einen jungen Dichter and Penderecki's St Luke Passion.

Marcus Bosch German conductor

Marcus Bosch is a German conductor. He was Generalmusikdirektor (GMD) in Aachen, held the position at the Staatstheater Nürnberg from 2011, and with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock from 2020. He is the artistic director of an opera festival in his home town. Conducting internationally, he was appointed professor at the Musikhochschule München in 2016. He has worked internationally at notable opera houses and festivals. He is regarded as an expert of historically informed performance, who has rediscovered and recorded rarely performed operas.

Marc Piollet is a French conductor. After positions at the Staatstheater Kassel and Volksoper in Vienna, he was Generalmusikdirektor (GMD) at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden from 2004 to 2012.

Helmuth Emil Froschauer was an Austrian conductor, especially a choral conductor who received his first training as a member of the Wiener Sängerknaben. He conducted the choir from 1953 to 1965, including 22 international tours. He went on to conduct the choirs of the Wiener Singverein, the Vienna State Opera and the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln. As a close collaborator of Herbert von Karajan from 1989, he prepared choirs for the Salzburg Festival among others.

Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock German philharmony orchestra

The Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, based in Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, is the state's largest symphony orchestra and also the orchestra of the Volkstheater Rostock. Founded in 1897, the orchestra grew to 90 musicians by 1991. They were rewarded a prize for ambitious programs in 1993.
