Syed Mohammad Anwar Habib (born Karachi, Pakistan, HI, PE ) is a Pakistani electrical engineer who served as the Chairman of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) from 2009 until 2017. [1] [2]

Biography

Habib was educated in Karachi where attended the Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) and graduated with Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Electronic Engineering. [3] He went to attend the Quaid-e-Azam University and graduated with Master of Science (MS) in physics, where he specialized in electromagnetism. [4]

Habib joined the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission where he was part of the nuclear safety division, and went joined the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority in 2001. [5] In 2009, he was appointed chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority and has spoken internationally in health and radiation safety, [6] and written multiple papers on nuclear regulation and safety. [7]

He is currently as a professor and director of the nuclear power at the South Asian Strategic Stability Institute University (SASSI)—a Pakistan-based foreign policy think tank. [1]

Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority

The Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authorityپاکستان نیوکلیئر ریگولیٹری اتھارٹى; (PNRA), is mandated by the Government of Pakistan to regulate the use of nuclear energy, radioactive sources and ionizing radiation. The mission of PNRA is to protect the public, radiation workers and environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation by formulating and implementing effective regulations, building a relationship of trust with licensees, and maintaining transparency in its actions and decisions.

The Chashma Nuclear Power Plant, is a large commercial nuclear power plant located in the vicinities of Chashma colony and Kundian in Punjab in Pakistan.

As of 2017, nuclear power in Pakistan is provided by five commercial nuclear power plants. Pakistan is the first Muslim majority country in the world to construct and operate civil nuclear power plants. The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), the scientific and nuclear governmental agency, is solely responsible for operating these power plants. As of 2012, the electricity generated by commercial nuclear power plants constitutes roughly 3.6% of electricity generated in Pakistan, compared to about 62% from fossil fuel and 33% from hydroelectric power. Pakistan is not a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty but is a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Pakistan plans on constructing 32 nuclear power plants by 2050.

Sitara-i-Imtiaz Third-highest civilian award of Pakistan

The Sitara-i-Imtiaz ; transl. Star of Excellence, also spelled as Sitara-e-Imtiaz), is the third highest honour and civilian award in the State of Pakistan. It recognizes individuals who have made an "especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of Pakistan, world peace, cultural or other significant public endeavours".

Husaini Blood Bank (HBB) is a public health organization with its headquarter at Karachi and working for the welfare of the people of Pakistan via its sub offices and affiliated department/NGOs all over the country. HBB was founded in 1979 by Dr Hasan Ali Vajid with the establishment of Husaini Haematology and Oncology Trust inside his Clinic at Soldier Bazar Karachi through the support of Mr Hamid D.
