Anwar Hafid (born 14 August 1969) is an Indonesian politician and bureaucrat who has served as the Governor of Central Sulawesi since 20 February 2025. [1] He was elected in the 2024 Central Sulawesi gubernatorial election and sworn into office alongside his deputy, Reny Lamadjido. [2]

Previously, Hafid served as a Member of the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2024, representing Central Sulawesi. [3] He also served two terms as Regent of Morowali from 2007 to 2018. [4]

Early life and education

Anwar Hafid was born in Wosu, Bungku Barat, Morowali, Central Sulawesi. [5] He completed his Diploma in Government Studies at the State College of Government (APDN) in Ujung Pandang in 1991, followed by a bachelor's degree in Government Science from Hasanuddin University in 1994. He later earned a master's degree from the Muslim University of Indonesia in 2011 and a Doctorate in Government Science from the Institute of Domestic Government in 2023.

Political career

Regent of Morowali

Hafid was elected Regent of Morowali in 2007 and re-elected in 2012. [6] During his tenure, he introduced free education from elementary to senior high school and free healthcare programs, later expanding the initiative to include free university education.

Member of the House of Representatives

In the 2019 general election, Hafid was elected to the House of Representatives for the 2019–2024 term from the Democratic Party and served on Commission V. [7]

Governor of Central Sulawesi

Hafid won the 2024 Central Sulawesi gubernatorial election with 45.00% of the vote and took office on 20 February 2025. [8]
