Apollos University is a private for-profit online university headquartered in Great Falls, Montana. [1] It is accredited by the Distance Education Accreditation Commission (DEAC). [2]

History

The university was founded in August 2004 as a non-profit university. [3] However, it closed the non-profit corporation and reopened as a for-profit corporation in May, 2005. [4] The new corporation was named Apollos University of California with a "doing business as" name of Apollos University. Formerly headquartered in Huntington Beach, California, [5] Apollos University moved to Great Falls, Montana, on September 30, 2016. [6] and is incorporated and approved as a private institution by the State of Montana.

Apollos University received its approval from the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) [7] in July 2005 and enrolled its first student in September 2005. The university held its first graduation ceremony in July 2007. [8] Apollos applied for accreditation in 2010 and received accreditation status in January 2012 from Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) which is now known as the Distance Education Accreditation Commission (DEAC). [9] In 2020, DEAC renewed Apollos University's accreditation. [10]

Apollos University is an approved as a private institution by the State of Montana [11] and is accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission(DEAC). [12]

The DEAC is recognized as a U.S. institutional accreditor by both the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

The California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) was a unit of the California Department of Consumer Affairs whose purpose was to protect students by establishing academic standards for private institutions of higher education in California. BPPVE approval or exemption was required by the State of California to ensure consumer safety from fraudulent or substandard education providers. The agency ceased operation on July 1, 2007, when the legislative authority for its creation expired. A new agency, the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, took its place on January 1, 2010.

Abraham Lincoln University (ALU) is a private, for-profit online university based in Glendale, California.

Penn Foster College is a private, for-profit online college headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was founded in 1890 as International Correspondence Schools and presently offers bachelor's and associate degree programs in 22 certified programs, as well as academic certificates.
