Apowa is a residential town in the Western region of Ghana. It is about 10 kilometres westwards from Takoradi [1] the regional capital.
The town is bounded to the west by Funko and on the east by Apremodo
The St. Mary's Boys' School, a second cycle institution is the main thing for which the town is popular aside from its dormitory status. The school was established in 1947. It initially was a teacher training institution before it was converted to a secondary school. Famous people associated with school include Robert Mugabe, president of Zimbabwe who taught in the school as a tutor in the early 1960s.

Takoradi Technical University is a public tertiary education institution (university) located in Sekondi-Takoradi, the capital of the Western Region of Ghana. Takoradi Technical University was established as a Government Technical Institute in 1954, and became part of the State Tertiary Education System. Later after the passage of the Polytechnic Law of 1992. It was replaced by Polytechnics Law in 2007. In 2016, the Bill to convert six out of the 10 polytechnics into a fully fledged university received a unanimous approval of Ghanaian legislators.

The council's mandate Is enshrined under section 4(1) of N.R.C.D. 117.
Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly is one of the fourteen districts in Western Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan District in 1988, which was created from the former Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Authority Council, until the eastern part of the district was split off to create Shama District on 29 February 2008; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan District. However on 15 March 2018, the western part of the district was split off to become Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal District; thus the remaining part has been retained as Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan District. The metropolis is located in the southeast part of Western Region and has Sekondi-Takoradi as its capital town.
The Archbishop Porter Girls' Senior High School is a Catholic senior secondary school for girls, located in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana. The female second cycle institution operates within the Ghana Public Education System. It was founded in 1965 by Rev. Kodjo Amissah with the name St. Louis Secondary School, which was later changed to Archbishop Porter Girls. It welcomes girls of all religious denominations. The school is situated on a hill in Fijai, Takoradi and it has come to be known as the "Hill of Tranquility" for its peaceful and serene academic atmosphere.
