Aravind Subramanian, known by his stage name Aravind SA, is an Indian stand-up comedian. He initially started as an assistant director in the Tamil film Arrambam (2013). He was voted one of the most desirable men in Chennai by the Times of India in 2017. [1] He gained fame with stand-up comedy clips uploaded to YouTube, including from his first solo-show Madrasi Da, that criticized the Hindi song "Lungi Dance". [2] His next stand-up comedy tour, I Was Not Ready Da, was released on Amazon Prime in 2020. [3] His next tour We Need to Talk is taking place in cities across India, New Zealand, and Australia. [4]

In December 2020, Marvel Studios announced that Usman had joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, agreeing to play Najaf on the cast of the studio's Ms. Marvel original streaming series for Disney+.

The Axis of Evil Comedy Tour is a comedy tour featuring four Middle Eastern comedians and special guest comedians. The tour's name is derived from a speech by US President George W. Bush which designated Iraq, Iran, and North Korea as the "axis of evil". The tour started on 11 November 2005. The group jokes about their culture along with being Middle Eastern in America. All of the comedians state that their lives changed considerably with 9/11, with one member, Egyptian American Ahmed Ahmed, whose name matches the alias used by an Osama bin Laden henchman, noting that he is frequently stopped by airport immigration officials on suspicion of terrorism – including a 12-hour stint in a jail in Las Vegas. On 10 March 2007, they were given their own Comedy Central special. The group broke up in 2011.

Modern stand-up comedy began around the turn of the century, evolving from a variety of sources including minstrel shows and vaudeville. Early stand-up comedians spoke directly to the audience as themselves without props or costumes, which distinguished these acts from vaudeville performances. These comics stood in front of the curtain during their shows, like early 20th century "front cloth" stand-up comics in Britain and Ireland whose numbers allowed the stage behind them to be re-set for another act.

One Mic Stand is an Indian standup comedy television show series created by Only Much Louder for Amazon Video. It is not like a typical standup comedy show in that it hosts India's famous actors, politicians, influencers, writers and musicians who are trained by Comedians to perform standup comedy for first time. This series has 2 seasons on Amazon Prime Video and both seasons are hosted by comedian Sapan Verma.
