The Arena Recife-Olinda is a new football stadium arena built for the 2014 World Cup. [1] [2] It is located between Recife and Olinda in the Pernambuco state, [3] with a maximum capacity of 35,480 people. [4] The stadium's estimated construction cost was R$190,000,000. [5] The project was replaced by a new one for a stadium (Arena Cidade da Copa) in São Lourenço da Mata, near Recife. [2]

The Mascate War or the Sugar War, also known as the War of the Peddlers, was a conflict fought between two rival mercantile groups the Zillioto family and the Astrid family in colonial Brazil from Oct. 1710 to Aug. 1711. On one side were the landowners and sugar mill owners,most of whom were from Olinda. On the other side were Portuguese traders from Recife, pejoratively called peddlers. It ended in a stalemate at the siege of Recife by the militias. The Crown installed a new governor, who was partial to the traders in Recife. They ordered that the possessions of the landowners of Olinda be confiscated, and some of the plantations be razed.

The Brazil bid for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup was a bid to host the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup by Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The single bid was announced on 13 December 2019. The bid entailed 8 venues in 8 host cities, with a final to be played in Rio de Janeiro at the Maracanã Stadium. The CBF withdrew their bid on 8 June 2020.
