Aristides Raimundo Lima (born August 31,1955) is a former Cape Verdean politician and was the 4th president of the National Assembly from 2001 to 2011. [1] [2]
Aristides Lima was born in the island of Boa Vista. He later studied at the São JoséSeminary near Ponta Temerosa in Praia and at Liceu Gil Eanes in São Vicente island in 1974. [1] [3]
In 1976,he completed a course at the School of Journalism in Friedrichshagen,Berlin and worked as a journalist at Voz di Povo from 1976 to 1978. In 1983,he went to the University of Leipzig. From 1999 to 2000,he attended the University of Mannheim and later at Heidelberg where he graduated in law. He later attended at the Amílcar Cabral Institute and the National Historic Archives. In 1985,he became member of the PAICV,he took part in elections in 1991,1996,2001 and in 2006. [1] [3]
At a party congress in August 1993,he replaced Pedro Pires and Lima became General Secretary of PAICV. [4]
From 2001 to 2011,he was president of the National Assembly of Cape Verde. He succeeded António do Espírito Santo Fonseca and was succeeded by Basílio Mosso Ramos.
In 2004,he awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
He ran for elections in 2011 as a PAICV member,he was third and received 44,648 votes or 27.71% in the first round. [5]
Politics of Cape Verde takes place in a framework of a semi-presidential representative democratic republic,whereby the Prime Minister of Cape Verde is the head of government and the President of the Republic of Cape Verde is the head of state,and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the president and the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the National Assembly. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature. The constitution,first approved in 1980 and substantially revised in 1992,forms the basis of government organization. It declares that the government is the "organ that defines,leads,and executes the general internal and external policy of the country" and is responsible to the National Assembly.
The recorded history of Cape Verde begins with the Portuguese discovery of the island in 1458. Possible early references to Cape Verde date back at least 2,000 years.
JoséMaria Pereira Neves is a Cape Verdean politician who is currently the president of Cape Verde,having previously served as the Prime Minister of Cape Verde from 2001 to 2016. He is a member of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV). In the 2021 presidential election,he was elected with 51.7% of votes,beating his nearest rival Carlos Veiga who got 42.4% of the total votes.

The University of Cape Verde is the only public university of Cape Verde. The main campus is in Palmarejo,Praia,but there are also institutes in Mindelo,Assomada and São Jorge dos Órgãos. It has over 5000 students. A new campus for Uni-CV is under construction in Palmarejo,financed by the Chinese government. It should be completed by July 2020. It will have capacity for 4,890 students and 476 professors,with a library,dorms,cafeterias and sports facilities. It will have 61 class rooms,five auditoriums with a capacity of 150 seats,eight computer rooms,eight reading rooms and 34 laboratories.
Praia is a concelho (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the southern part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the city Praia,the capital of Cape Verde. Its area is 120.6 km2 (46.6 sq mi),and its population was 131,719 at the 2010 census. The municipality consists of one freguesia,Nossa Senhora da Graça. The city hall is located in the Platôpart of the city.

Liceu Ludgero Lima is a secondary school in Mindelo,Cape Verde. The school is named after Ludgero Lima,a former employee and fighter for Cape Verdean independence,who died in an aviation accident in March 1975. Since 1968 it is housed in a building on Rua Jonas Wanon,in the neighbourhood Chãde Cemitério,southeast of the city centre,designed by the Portuguese architect Eurico Pinto Lopes.
