Arjan Kripal Singh (born 13 February 1971),was an Indian cricketer, right handed batsman and a right arm medium- pace bowler. A shooting star in the first class cricketing circuit Arjan was selected for the inaugural World U-19 Cup in 1988 in Australia. He made his debut with Ranji Trophy in domestic cricket in the 1988/89 season and was vice captain of the tour in 1989–90. He holds a world record along with W V Raman, the only two batsman who have scored triple centuries in the same innings in first class cricket.
A prestigious recognition indeed for the country,Arjan hails from a family of cricketers with 9 members of his family have played in first class cricket circuit, probably the only family in the world to do so. An achiever par excellence,Arjan never got his due credit in the international cricket arena with the right opportunities and eventually had to part ways from domestic cricket after the 1995/96 season due to a knee surgery. Arjan is the second cousin of Indian off-spinner Sarandeep Singh, with his grandfather A. G. Ram Singh playing in two unofficial Test matches, his father A. G. Kripal Singh (14 Test matches) and uncle A. G. Milkha Singh (4 Test matches) representing India in Test cricket. Another uncle A.G. Satwender Singh played first class cricket for Madras cricket team and Tamil Nadu cricket team. His brother Swaran Kripal Singh played in domestic cricket briefly. His grandfather hailed from Amritsar,Punjab (India) who settled down in Madras and played for the local team.
His time in active cricket may have ended abruptly but the unconditional love for the blue jersey,he continues to be associated with the BCCI as one of the top match referees in India today.
When he is not on the field,an ardent fan of travelling he has visited over 55 countries so far, walked the Inca Trail in Peru, swum with whale sharks in Mexico and loves talking about his face-to-face encounter with a great white shark in South Africa but Arjan's 'go-to' is trekking and mountaineering. A pioneer in the travel industry,he breathes adventure and went on to start one of south India's first adventure- travel company 'GetUpAndGo' in 2012. A game changer of sorts,Arjan has managed to carve out a niche for himself among the trekking fraternity in India within a short time having organised many treks to unique destinations. His key personal achievements in mountaineering apart from having reached the top of many 6000m peaks in the Himalayas, include summiting Kilimanjaro, the roof of Africa, one of the seven summits in the world at an elevation of 5895m above sea level. No less than a superstar in cricket, carrying the spirit of sportsmanship and never give up attitude has motivated Arjan to complete the Everest Base camp trek 5 times across seasons also holding the record of being the only first class cricketer to do so successfully.
His most recent accolade is being at the summit of Yunam Peak in Himachal Pradesh at a height of 6111m in 2022.
Arjan, has taken a notch higher his extraordinary mentorship capabilities from the cricket field into the mountains and shares his relentless passion for adventure through mentoring aspiring young mountaineers and adventure seekers across all ages in climbing, motivating many to do challenging treks, summit high mountains and even reach the top of the world,Mount Everest at an elevation 8848m beyond the clouds.
On 19 May 2023 Rajasekar Pachai, fondly known as Kutty amongst the trekking community, created a world record as the first person from Tamil Nadu to summit Mt Everest at a height of 8848m under the mentorship and guidance of Arjan and his team with getupandgo.
GETUPANDGO is a brain child born out of an opportunity to quench the thirst of avid travellers who yearn for experiences rather than run-of-the-mill holidays. [1] Keeping safety as a priority with promise to offer exhilarating views and adrenaline rush experiences, getupandgo is for those who like to take the off-beaten path, tailoring to niche and unique travellers primarily specialising in treks and mountaineering trips across the globe.
With getupandgo,Arjan has managed to inspire and change the lives of many in the trekking community of guides and sherpas in the Himalayas. He has opened out an entirely new concept of a travel for many adventure seekers from across the globe. A certified scuba diver himself with experience in bungee jumping, skydiving and paragliding, through getupandgo,Arjan shares his love to travel and adventure with the rest of the world.
