The Armenia men's national artistic gymnastics team represents Armenia in FIG international competitions.

History

Albert Azaryan and Hrant Shahinyan were two successful Armenian gymnasts when Armenia was part of the Soviet Union (Armenian SSR); both gymnasts won numerous Olympic and World medals. [1] After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Armenia began competing as an independent nation at the 1993 World Championships. At the 2015 World Championships Harutyun Merdinyan won the first World Championships medal for an independent Armenia, a bronze on pommel horse. [2] At the 2020 Olympic Games Artur Davtyan won the first Olympic medal for Armenia, a bronze on vault. [3]

A wide array of sports are played in Armenia. Popular sports in Armenia include football, basketball, volleyball, and ice hockey. Albert Azaryan is a former Soviet Armenian artistic gymnast who competed internationally representing the Soviet Union. He is the 1956 and 1960 Olympic Champion on the still rings. Azaryan is the first gymnast to become an Olympic Champion in rings twice, a feat that Akinori Nakayama would accomplish twelve years later and that no one else has matched since. He is the first person to do one of the rings most famous variations of the Iron Cross called the Azaryan Cross, which incorporates a quarter turn to the side.

Hrant Shahinyan, also known as Grant Shaginyan, was a Soviet Armenian gymnast. Specializing in the still rings and pommel horse, he is a two-time Olympic Champion, two-time World Champion and seven-time USSR Champion.

The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships are the world championships for artistic gymnastics governed by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). The first edition of the championships was held in 1903, exclusively for male gymnasts. Since the tenth edition of the tournament, in 1934, women's events are held together with men's events.

İbrahim Çolak is a Turkish artistic gymnast who is primarily a rings specialist. He is the 2019 World champion on the rings and the first Turkish gymnast to medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. He also became Turkey's first European champion in artistic gymnastics when he won gold on the rings at the 2020 European Championships. He is also the 2018 European silver medalist on the rings and the 2020 European silver medalist with the Turkish team. He is the 2022 Mediterranean Games champion on the rings and in the team event. He won the bronze medal at the 2015 European Games and the silver medal at the 2013 Mediterranean Games on the rings. He represented Turkey at the 2020 Summer Olympics where he finished fifth in the rings final.

Artur Grachyevich Dalaloyan born 26 April 1996 is a Russian artistic gymnast who represented ROC at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He was part of the teams who won gold at the 2020 Olympic Games and 2019 World Championships and silver at the 2018 World Championships. Individually Dalaloyan is the 2018 World All-Around Champion and the 2019 World All-Around silver medalist. He is a nine-time World medalist and a five-time European champion.

The men's vault event at the 2020 Summer Olympics was held on 24 July and 2 August 2021 at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre. Unlike the other apparatus events, vault requires gymnasts to perform two exercises in order for results to count towards the vault final; most of the gymnasts perform only one or none. Approximately 20 gymnasts from 15 nations competed two vaults in the qualifying round.

The Russia men's national artistic gymnastics team represents Russia in FIG international competitions. Additionally they have competed as the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and the Russian Gymnastics Federation (RGF) due to the World Anti-Doping Agency banning athletes from representing Russia in international competition.

Jake Jarman is an elite English artistic gymnast from Peterborough, competing internationally for Great Britain, and for England at the Commonwealth Games. In his first major senior championships, the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Jarman won the gold medal in the team all-around, individual all-around, floor exercise and vault, the first English male gymnast to win four gold medals at a single Games. A few weeks later in Munich, representing Great Britain, Jarman became European champion in the team and vault events, becoming the first British male to win European gold on vault.
