Army Intelligence is the intelligence formation of the Singapore Army responsible for reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition (RSTA) operations to provide the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) with information to facilitate effective decision-making by commanders.

All reconnaissance-trained soldiers in the Singapore Army wear the RECON tab on the left sleeves of their uniforms. [2]

History

The Army Intelligence formation started as the Department of Military Intelligence (DMI), which was formed on 9 February 1966 at Pearl's Hill. [3] The Air Photo Unit and the School of Military Intelligence (SMI) were subsequently established in 1969. [3]

A Sensor System Wing was created in SMI in 1988 to develop intelligence sensor systems for the Singapore Army.

The 1st Military Intelligence Battalion was formed in October 2004. The 10th and 11th Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence Battalions (10 C4I and 11 C4I) were formed in 2011. [2]

Equipment

The Army Intelligence formation uses unmanned aerial vehicles such as the Veloce-15, Skyblade III mini UAV, Mercedes Benz G Wagon, Yamaha motorcycles and Parrot Anafi. [4] [5]

Ukrainian volunteer battalions were militias and paramilitary groups mobilized as a response to the perceived state of weakness and unwillingness of the regular Armed Forces to counter rising separatism in spring 2014. They trace their origins to the "Maidan Self-Defense" militias formed during the Euromaidan in 2013. The earliest of these volunteer units were later formalized into military, special police and paramilitary formations in a response to the Russian military intervention in Ukraine in 2014. Most of the formations were formed or placed under command of the Ministry of Internal Affairs — as "Special Tasks Patrol Police" — and Ministry of Defence — as "Territorial defence battalions". A minority of battalions were independent of state control.

The Army Special Operations Brigade, previously called the Specialised Infantry Group, is a formation of the British Army, initially created as a result of the Army 2020 Refine reorganisation, intended to train foreign forces. Its name and role was adapted after the Defence in a Competitive Age reforms, to a unit that not only trains partner nations, but also fights alongside them in "complex high-threat environments".

The 1st Deep Reconnaissance Strike Brigade Combat Team is a formation of the British Army, currently headquartered in Delhi Barracks, Tidworth Camp, Wiltshire, as part of the 3rd Division.
