Art Jakarta is a contemporary art fair, held annually in Jakarta, Indonesia. The fair is usually held at Jakarta Convention Center at Senayan. [2] [3] The fair is organised by fashion and lifestyle magazine Harper's Bazaar Indonesia since 2009. Art Jakarta was previously known as Bazaar Art Jakarta. [4] Artists, galleries, collectors, and art critics from all over the world participate in this fair. The fair already established as one of Southeast Asia’s most important art fairs. [5]

Chronology

Since its inception in 2009 up-to 2016 the fair was known as Bazaar Art Jakarta (BAJ). It was renamed as Art Jakarta from 2017 edition.

Last edition as Bazaar Art Jakarta (BAJ) was held in 2016 in which 23 overseas and 19 local art galleries took part. More than 1,500 art pieces were displayed in the fair. [6]

Bazaar Art Jakarta changed name as Art Jakarta in 2017. Art Jakarta was held from 28 August to 30 August. [7] Among the galleries were Jakarta’s Vivi Yip Artroom and Ruci Art Space, Bandung’s Lawangwangi Creative Space, Zola Zulu and Singapore’s Art Xchange Gallery, Art Front Gallery Element Art Space, Pearl Lam Galleries and Yavuz Gallery. [8]

10th edition of Art Jakarta was held in 2018, from August 2 to August 5. The 10th year celebration of Art Jakarta 2018 presents 51 art galleries. As many as 20 galleries come from Indonesia and the rest are from overseas countries. Among the galleries were ROH Projects, Gajah Gallery, RUCI Gallery, Mizuma Gallery, Lawangwangi Creative Space, YEO Workshop, Image Warehouse, Museum MACAN, Ciputra Museum and many others. Japan Art Now, which presented the 10 most recent Japanese artists with 10 years of Jakarta Art, Creative Art Classical by Ganara Art Space, and Creative Art Talk. [9] The Art Jakarta 2018 presented more than 1,000 works from more than 300 artists both local and international. [10]

In 2019 Art Jakarta, 70 local and overseas galleries from 14 countries took part. Among the participants were Singapore based Gajah Gallery, Arario Gallery from South Korea, Mizuma Gallery from Japan, Galerie Ovo from Taiwan along with local galleries such as Nadi Gallery, Semarang Gallery and Can’s Gallery. [11] Other than galleries and auction houses, Philips Asia displayed artworks, watches and jewelry. [12]

Ivan Sagita was born in Malang 1957 and studied at the Indonesian Art Institute in Yogyakarta from 1979 to 1985. He is known as an introvert and mysterious artist, but his work of art is well known in the world of art.

Gajah Gallery is an art gallery in Singapore that hosts artwork related to the socio-cultural interests of Asia. It was established in 1995 by Jasdeep Sandhu and promotes Southeast Asian Contemporary Art with an emphasis on Indonesian Contemporary. The gallery holds exhibitions, some of which have been collaborations with the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) and the National University of Singapore Museum (NUS). Gajah Gallery is also a member of Art Galleries Association in Singapore.

Yunizar is an Indonesian artist. He was born in Talawi, West Sumatra, Indonesia. He graduated in 1999 with a degree in Fine Arts from Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Yogyakarta (ISI), a school of national pride and the heart of progressive art-making in Indonesia. Creativity and change are the forefront of the school's agenda and this is evident in Yunizar's work ethic. Yunizar's training reveals itself in his sophisticated expressive style, articulated through a playful composition and subtle palette. Executed primarily in acrylic and pencil, his works stand out in terms of texture, colour, brushwork and rhythm. A restrained palette of cool colours- yellows, browns and greens- is deliberately dirtied and smudged in his working and reworking of the canvas. The result is a highly tactile work that entices the viewer to feel the piece.

Indonesia International Book Fair (IIBF) is a book-publishing trade fair held annually in Jakarta, Indonesia. In addition to selling books, the fair acts as a gateway for publishers and writers to the international book market. It also holds seminars, discussions and book launches. IIBF promotes interactions between literacy activists, publishers, writers, librarians, artists, education practitioners, and other creative industries. The fair also arranges many events on literacy, education and culture. The fair is usually held in September at Jakarta Convention Center.

The 5th Passage Artists Limited, commonly known as 5th Passage or 5th Passage Artists, was an artist-run initiative and contemporary art space in Singapore from 1991 to 1994. As a registered, artist-led non-profit organisation, it was one of the earliest of its kind for early-1990s Singapore, with its initial space located at Parkway Parade, a shopping centre in the east of the city. Melati Suryodarmo is an Indonesian durational performance artist. Her physically demanding performances make use of repetitive motions and often last for many hours, sometimes reaching "a level of factual absurdity". Suryodarmo has performed and exhibited throughout Europe and Asia as well as in North America. Born in Surakarta, she attended Padjadjaran University, graduating with a degree in international relations before moving to Germany. She lived there for 20 years, studying performance art at the Braunschweig University of Art with Butoh choreographer Anzu Furukawa and performance artist Marina Abramović.

Titarubi is an Indonesian artist. She is based in Yogyakarta and is one of Indonesia's most prominent contemporary artists.

Christine Ay Tjoe is an Abstract Expressionist painter from Bandung, Indonesia. Ay Tjoe's artwork style is mostly abstract imagery, with the expressions of human emotions and flawed figurative objects by using colors that has developed from primarily muted to bright hues color. As for the use of mediums, she excels in painting and printmaking; her art features strong lines, abstracted figurative elements, and a unique brushstroke technique. Given the style of her works, she has received several international awards to recognize her contributions. Her artworks received high appreciation and great market value overseas.
