Arunava Ghosh is an Indian advocate and political figure based in Kolkata, West Bengal. He is a practicing lawyer at the Calcutta High Court and is known for his involvement in legal and political matters in West Bengal.

Early life and education

Ghosh completed his schooling at South Point High School, Kolkata. He earned a B.Sc. in Physiology from Presidency College in 1974 and an M.Sc. in Physiology from the University of Calcutta in 1978. He later completed B.A. and L.L.B. degrees from the University of Calcutta in 1980.

Arunava Ghosh has over 25 years of experience practicing law at the Calcutta High Court. He specializes in civil litigation and notary services. In December 2021, Ghosh was elected as the president of the Calcutta High Court Bar Association. [1]

In 2014, he made headlines by declining the senior advocate designation offered by the High Court, citing concerns over the selection process. [2]

Political involvement

Ghosh has been affiliated with the Indian National Congress. He contested the 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election from the Bidhannagar constituency as an INC candidate. [3]

Controversies

In 2022, Ghosh filed an application before the Calcutta High Court seeking to reassign the jurisdiction of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay. He also requested a ban on media entry into the courtroom following the judge’s decision to permit video recording of court proceedings. [4]
