Arvind Sastry is an Indian film director, screenwriter and an editor in Kannada cinema. [1]

He started his career with "Kahi (Bitter)", an independent Kannada movie which was released in November 2016.

Early life

Arvind was born in Bengaluru district in Karnataka in 1990. He is an alumnus of Manipal Institute of Technology (I&P Engineering). Then, he pursued his post-graduate studies in screenplay writing and film direction at Ramoji Academy of Film and Television, Hyderabad before making Kahi. [2]

Career

In 2016, Arvind stepped into Kannada film industry with the independent film, "Kahi". The film garnered rave reviews [3] [4] [5] and went on to win the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Original Screenplay making Arvind the youngest ever recipient of the award. Kahi was one of the Kannada films to be streamed on Netflix. [6] [7]

In 2017, Arvind started work on his second directorial venture, a film named Alidu Ulidavaru. [8] The film's story was written by Sudheer Shanbogue while Arvind wrote the screenplay. The film had its theatrical release in December 2019. The film generated largely positive reviews [9] [10] [11] [12] and went on to complete 100 days of theatrical run. [13] In November 2019, Arvind began work on a movie titled "Vaitarani" [14] starring Sathish Ninasam and Sharmiela Mandre in lead roles. The shooting for the film's first schedule took place in London. The rest of the film was shot in Karnataka. In June 2020, the film was renamed as "Dasara". [15] The film was shot in between COVID-19 lockdowns [16] [17] [18] [19] and its production was completed in September 2021. [20] [21] [22] It has been in post-production since then.

In October 2021, Arvind started writing Bisi-Bisi Ice-Cream, which would go on to become his third feature film venture [23] [24] [25] [26] . He served as the movie's writer, director and editor. The movie had its theatrical release on 5th July, 2024 [27] and has garnered positive reviews [28] [29] [30] [31] .

In October 2022, Arvind directed a web-series produced by MTV India named Primetime with The Murthys [32] . The English language web-series was dubbed into Hindi and Tamil [33] [34] . It started streaming on Jio Cinema from 3rd July, 2024 [35] [36] .

Awards

Arvind Sastry won the award for the Best Original Screenplay at the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Screenplay for "Kahi". [37]

While Darshan, Ananth Nag, Tara, Sharmiela Mandre, Tarun Chandra and Jennifer Kotwal form the rest of the ensemble cast. The movie was produced by Jai Jagadish for Dakshath Combines.

Midhun Mukundan is an Indian music composer and singer who works predominantly in Kannada cinema and Malayalam cinema. His film music career began with the 2016 Kannada film Kahi. His other notable works include Ondu Motteya Kathe (2017), Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana (2021) and Rorschach (2022).

Siri Ravikumar, is an Indian model, former Radio Jockey, singer and an actress who primarily works in Kannada films. After playing cameo roles in many films and performing in theatre plays, She played her first major role in Kavaludaari (2019) followed by a lead role in Sakutumba Sametha (2022), whilst her singing debut was with Arishadvarga (2019) for which she received SIIMA Award for Best Female Playback Singer- Kannada nomination. She further played lead roles in films such as Hope (2022), Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye (2023) and Bachelor Party (2024).
