Asfand Yar Khan Kakar is a Pakistani politician and ethnic Pashtun tribesman. He is currently serving as a member of the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan since February 2024. [1] He has also served from 2008 to 2013.
He is a native of Tehsil Barshore of District Pishin,and Head of Kakar Tribe. His affiliation is with Pakistan Peoples Party and has been Minister for Food within the provincial cabinet from 2008 to 2013. [2]
In February 2024,his campaign office was bombed,killing dozens,the day before the 2024 Pakistani general election. [3]
Pishin,IPA:pʂin/pçin,is a district in the Balochistan province of Pakistan. District Pishin is located at a strategic point and is 45km²from the provincial headquarters. In 1975,it was bifurcated from Quetta District,while in 1993 part of it was split off to form the new district of Killa Abdullah. Again in 2022,part of it was crated the new district of Karezat.The name Pishin is a modernized form of ‘Pushang’,which is how the city was designated in Persian sources. Myth attributes the origin of the Persian designation to a son of the mythical Emperor Afrasiab. Fushing was the spelling used in the records of the Afghan government. The population of Pishin District was 300,000 in 2005.

Muhammad Sarwar Khan Kakar was a Pakistani former politician who served as the third Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly from 1985 to 1988. He is the head of the Kakar Pashtun tribe in Balochistan. He was from the Barshore and Toba Kakar Ranges area of Pishin District. He was born in 1942 and studied at St. Michael's School,Quetta. His political career began in 1979,when he became the Chairman of Pishin District Council,serving in that role until 1984. From 1985 to 1999,he was elected five times to represent Pishin in the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan and served as the Speaker of the Assembly from 1985 to 1988. He was a Provincial Minister from 1990 to 1994 and 1998–1999,with various portfolios including education,finance,transport,excise and taxation,revenue,and sports. He was elected to the Senate of Pakistan in 2005 on a PML-Q ticket,and was the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Local Government and Rural Areas. On 18 February 2008,Sarwar Khan was a candidate for elections to the National Assembly of Pakistan and the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan,winning a seat in the provincial election. However,before he could take up his seat in the provincial Assembly,he died on 21 February 2008 and his seat was given to his nephew Khan Asfandiyar Khan Kakar.He was left behind with 2 wives and 2 daughters.
