Ashab Uddin (born 28 October 1958) is a retired major general of Bangladesh Army. He has also served as Bangladesh's ambassador to Kuwait and Yemen. [1] [2] [3]

Early life

Ashab Uddin was born on 28 October 1958 in Matijura village of Tilpara union in Beanibazar, Sylhet. He married Farha Asab Chowdhury on 29 February 1988. The couple has a daughter, Faria, and a son, Farhan. [4]

He passed SSC and HSC from Faujdarhat Cadet College. He graduated from University of Chittagong. He holds postgraduate and postgraduate defense studies from the Department of Political Science at the National University. He holds a Master's degree in national and international strategic studies (MPhil) from the University of Madras, India. [4]

He completed several courses, including a military science course at the Defence Services Command and Staff College and an army staff course in Pakistan. He completed the reserve component in 1996, the special forces operation in 2003, and the senior executive course in the United States in 2008. [4]

Career

Ashab Uddin was commissioned in the Bangladesh Army in 1979 in the first regular batch. He commanded two infantry battalions, two infantry brigades and served as general officer commanding (GOC) of two infantry divisions, and area commander of Savar and Chittagong area. He also served as the director military training and military secretary in Army HQ. He was also the commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College. He retired from the Bangladesh Army in 2016. [4]

He served as the ambassador of Bangladesh to the embassy in Kuwait and Yemen from 17 August 2013 to 2016. He was the president of Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation and also the president of Bhatiary Golf & Country Club and Savar Golf Club. [4]

He has taken part in UN peacekeeping operations in Mozambique as a peacekeeper. [4]

Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan is a retired Bangladeshi general who served as the Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army from 2012 to 2015. He took office of army chief at 25 June 2012 and retired on 25 June 2015. He joined Bangladesh Military Academy on 19 March 1976 and was commissioned on 30 November 1976 in the Corps of Infantry. Iqbal had a diversified and fine mix of all three types of appointment available in army. During 39 years in Bangladesh Army, He commanded three infantry battalions, an infantry brigade and three divisions. He also served as chief of general staff, colonel staff of a division, and platoon commander of Bangladesh Military Academy. He participated in Operation Desert Storm and received 'Liberation of Kuwait Medal'.

Ashab Uddin Ahmad was a Bangladeshi writer, educator and politician. He was a member of the East Bengal Legislative Assembly for the United Front, and a Communist activist. In 2005, he was posthumously awarded the Ekushey Padak, one of the highest civilian awards in Bangladesh, for his contributions to literature, which include 24 published books in Bengali and English.

As Major General he served as the Commander Logistics Area Dhaka Cantonment of Bangladesh Army. He served in various command and headquarters formations. He served as Adjutant General of Bangladesh Army, Commandant of the Bangladesh Military Academy, the Director of Military Operations-Army headquarters and also the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 55 Infantry division and 17 Infantry division.

Mohammad Saiful Abedin, BSP, ndc, psc is a retired major general in the Bangladesh Army. He was General officer commanding (GOC) of the 24th Infantry Division and Area Commander, Chattogram Area. Sheikh Mohammad Shafiuddin Ahmed is a four star general of the Bangladesh Army and the current Chief of Army Staff (CAS) of the Bangladesh Army since June 2021. Prior to his appointment as CAS, he served as the quartermaster general (QMG) of Bangladesh Army as a lieutenant general. In his 40 year long military career he has also served as director general of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), Director of Military Training (DMT), besides commanding an infantry brigade and an infantry division.

Major General Shakil Ahmed SPP, BGBM, nswc, afwc, psc is a two-star general of the Bangladesh Army. Currently he is serving as General Officer Commanding of 66th Infantry Division & Area Commander, Rangpur Area. He served as the Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). Prior to this appointment, he served as Adjutant general of Army Headquarters. Before that he has served as the General Officers Commanding of 19th Infantry Division in ghatail.

Tofayel Mustafa Sorwar is a Bangladesh Army Brigadier General and the former Additional Director General (Operations) at the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) an elite multi-service unit of the Bangladesh Police. He has been sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury for human rights violation at RAB during his time at the agency.

Moin Uddin is a Retired Major General of the Bangladesh Army. He served as the Chairman of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board.

SM Shamim Uz Zaman SBP, BSP, ndc, psc is a retired Bangladesh Army major general. He served as Bangladeshi Ambassador to Libya. Prior to join here, he served as military secretary to the president of Bangladesh.
