Aspirus Health is a non-profit health system headquartered in Wausau, Wisconsin. The system includes 19 hospitals and serves portions of Wisconsin, Minnesota and the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. [1] [2] It was previously known as Community Health Care. [3]

Aspirus and Saint Luke's Duluth became a combined organization in March 2024. As a result, Saint Luke's hospital in Duluth, Minnesota and Lake View Hospital in Two Harbors, Minnesota became affiliated with Aspirus. [4] [5] [6] In February 2024, Aspirus announced that their Ontonagon, Michigan hospital would transition to a rural clinic in April and a $30 million investment would be made in the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium, Michigan. [7]

Lake Duluth was a proglacial lake that formed in the Lake Superior drainage basin as the Laurentide Ice Sheet retreated. The oldest existing shorelines were formed after retreat from the Greatlakean advance, sometime around 11,000 years B.P. Lake Duluth formed at the western end of the Lake Superior basin. Lake Duluth overflowed south through outlets in Minnesota and Wisconsin at an elevation of around 331 m above sea level.

The Wisconsin Valley Conference is a high school athletic conference composed of the largest public schools in north-central Wisconsin centered on the Wausau, Wisconsin metro area. The Wisconsin Valley is one of Wisconsin's oldest athletic conferences. The conference sponsors a variety of high school sports for girls and boys. In 2008, Antigo and Merrill, which had been charter members for 87 years, moved to the Great Northern Conference. This was the first change of the Wisconsin Valley Conference since 1980 when member Shawano moved to the Bay Conference. In the summer of 2010 Merrill returned to the Wisconsin Valley Conference and Rhinelander moved to the Great Northern Conference. In 2010 The WVC Schools petitioned to the WIAA for scheduling assistance in Football. Therefore, a football only conference was formed made up of Fox Valley Association schools named the Valley Football Association. Due to the Valley Football Association subsequently having 16 teams and the inability to have all teams play one another, the conference was forced to split into two divisions: North & South.

SMDC Health System was a hospital network with hospitals and clinics in northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin and also serving parts of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The four hospitals were St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota, SMDC Medical Center in Duluth, St. Mary's Hospital of Superior, Wisconsin and Pine Medical Center in Sandstone, Minnesota. SMDC included the Duluth Clinic, a group of physicians who provided care at several locations.

The Wisconsin Valley Library Service (WVLS) is a library system made up of 25 public libraries and hundreds of non-public libraries across seven counties in north-central Wisconsin. These include the counties of Clark, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Oneida, and Taylor. The facility is owned by Wisconsin based non-profit Aspirus Health. It also has a satellite campus of the Aspirus Heart & Vascular Institute.

The Great Northern Conference is a high school athletic conference in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association. It comprises seven teams from Marathon, Taylor, Lincoln, Oneida, Langlade and Vilas counties in Northern Wisconsin. The Conference was formed in 2008 with former Lumberjack members Lakeland, Medford, Northland Pines and Tomahawk, Cloverbelt member Mosinee, and Wisconsin Valley's Antigo and Merrill. In 2010, Merrill returned to the Wisconsin Valley conference and Rhinelander took its place. In December 2023 Merrill had filed a request within the WIAA Conference Realignment process to move the school back to the Great Northern Conference. Merrill has cited declining enrollment as its top reason.

UP Health System - Portage is a hospital and associated healthcare system based in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. The healthcare system has several clinics stretching as far north as Lake Linden, Michigan and as far south as offices in L'Anse, Michigan and Ontonagon, Michigan. The system's main building is a 36-bed hospital in Hancock, Michigan. The Portage Health Hospital employs more than 800 people, and is the second largest employer in Houghton County, behind Michigan Technological University. The hospital is one of two in the state of Michigan to be recognized as a Level III trauma center by the American College of Surgeons.
