The Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. abbreviated as ASEP is an organization of structural engineers of the Philippines affiliated with the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers.

Background

ASEP was established in 1961 to promote the advancement of Filipino civil engineers in the field of structural engineering. [1] [2] The publication of the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP) and the referral codes of the Philippine National Building Code were published by the organization. [3]

Advocacy

ASEP exists in the advancement of structural engineering in the Philippines as well as upholding ethical values in the promotion of national and international professional collaboration with governments, industry and the academe. [4]

The organization specifically lobbies on legislation of the Philippines [5] in the national and local levels.

Gabriel Daza

Don Gabriel A. Daza, KGCR, KC*SS was the first Filipino electrical engineer and one of the charter members of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP). He co-founded the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Co. (PT&T), Philippine Electric Manufacturing Company (PEMCO), Phelps Dodge Philippines. President and Chief Scout of the BSP in 1961-68. In 1945, President Osmeña appointed Daza to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Manila Railroad Company and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. In 1950, he was Vice-Chairman of the National Power Corporation and on the board of directors of the Manila Hotel Company. In 1951, Daza was appointed Appointed by President Quirino as a founding member of the Board of Directors of the National Shipyard and Steel Corporation in 1951. President and Director of the National Economic Protection Agency (NEPA) in 1956.

Hermenegildo B. Reyes, KGCR co-founded the University of the East, was a Boy Scouts of the Philippines Scouting notable, Filipino educator, lawyer, mechnical and electrical engineer. Reyes served on the World Scout Committee of the World Organization of the Scout Movement from 1961 to 1967.

Polytechnic University of the Philippines is a research and coeducational state university in the Philippines. It was founded on October 19, 1904 as the Manila Business School (MBS) and as part of Manila's public school system. It was eventually promoted to chartered state university in 1978, by virtue of Presidential Decree 1341. PUP has more than 20 campuses and extensions across Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Metro Manila. The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) was founded in 1956 and promotes the design and construction of metal building systems in the low-rise, non-residential building marketplace. A non-profit trade organization, MBMA's headquarters is in Cleveland, Ohio. The organization consists of building system members, who are certified according to standards which have been set by the International Accreditation Service of the International Code Council, and associate members, who work in the metal building industry. Engineering Council of India (ECI) is an apex body of engineering associations in India. It was established on 4 April 2002 by many professional organizations and institutions of engineers to work for the advancement of engineering profession in various disciplines and for enhancing the image of engineers in society, by focusing on the quality and accountability of engineers. The headquarters of ECI is in New Delhi, India. Today there are 40 members, which includes eight government departments and 32 Indian engineering professional associations and institutions.

The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers or PICE is a professional organization for civil engineers in the Philippines. It was formed by merging two separate organizations of civil engineers: one group working from government sector and the second group working in the private sector.

Anand Swarup Arya (1931-2019) was an Indian structural engineer, known for his expertise in the soil and foundation engineering and earthquake disaster management. He is a former chairman of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Committee on Earthquake Engineering and a recipient of the United Nations Sasakawa Disaster Prevention Award of 1997. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2002.

The United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) or the Integrated and Accredited Professional Organization of Architects (IAPOA), is the professional organization for architects in the Philippines. UAP offers education, government advocacy, community redevelopment, and public outreach to support the architecture profession in the country and improve its public image. Its headquarters is located in Quezon City.
