The Association of the Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) is a platform and voices of universities in Asia and the Pacific and around the world. AUAP is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), holding the highest formal consultative status with UNESCO. [1] Its primary purpose is to be the main platform for interaction and collaboration between members, and to be the effective voice of universities in Asia and the Pacific region. AUAP organizes regular conferences [2] and workshops for higher education leaders and institutions in the Asia-Pacific region [3] to discuss important issues and the challenges facing higher education. The association promotes and helps enhance mutually beneficial cooperation among educational institutions, and is dedicated to render such services to its member institutions.

History and overview

The Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific, ( AUAP). This organization is based in Thailand and it was established in 1995. It serves as a platform for cooperation among colleges and universities in Asia, the Pacific and around the world. AUAP has numerous activities such as conferences, seminars, academic and sports activities for the students. AUAP was established in 1995 as a non-government organization. It is an aggrupation of university chief executives from higher education institutions in Asia, the Pacific, and around the world. One of the main purposes of AUAP are: to promote a culture of quality and innovation in higher education, research and service to the community and to be the voice of universities in Asia and the Pacific. At the moment it has over 150 active members. It also has consultation rights with UNESCO.

Headquartered in Singapore, APEC is recognized as one of the highest-level multilateral blocs and oldest forums in the Asia-Pacific region, and exerts significant global influence.

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is the regional intergovernmental organization and geopolitical union of states in South Asia. Its member states are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. SAARC comprises 3% of the world's land area, 21% of the world's population and 5.21% of the global economy, as of 2021.

UNESCO-CEPES was established in 1972 at Bucharest, Romania, as a de-centralized office for the European Centre for Higher Education. The centre was closed in 2011 due to lack of funding. The centre promoted international cooperation in the sphere of higher education among UNESCO's Member States in Central, Eastern and South-East Europe and also served Canada, the United States and Israel. Higher Education in Europe, a scholarly publication focusing on major problems and trends in higher education, was the official journal of UNESCO-CEPES. The Pacific Trade and Development Conference (PAFTAD) is an informal private academic conference series that, since its origins in 1968, has developed into a driving force behind the development of thought on Pacific trade and development issues and important economic policy questions facing the region.

The Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) is an inter-governmental organization operated as a non-profit independent body with full international legal status. It is headquartered in Beijing, People's Republic of China. Members include agencies from: Bangladesh, China, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, Peru, South Korea, Thailand and the United Kingdom. In 2005, the APSCO convention was signed in Beijing. Germany, Indonesia, Italy and Turkey also signed the APSCO convention. Representatives from Algeria, Egypt, Malaysia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka and Ukraine also attended the founding ceremony.

The International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) is an association of university chief executives from higher education institutions around the world. The IAUP was founded in 1964 in Oxford. Membership is limited to those individuals who serve as presidents, rectors or vice-chancellors at regionally accredited colleges or universities.

The Berkeley APEC Study Center (BASC) is a research center at the University of California, Berkeley. Pornchai Mongkhonvanit is the president of Siam University and the President Emeritus of the International Association of University Presidents. Concurrently, he is also the chair person of the advisory board of the Association of Universities in Asia and the Pacific, as well as a member of the administrative board of the International Association of Universities. He is also a former president of the Association of Private Higher Education Institutions of Thailand and former president of the Thailand chapter of Phi Delta Kappa honors society.

The Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) is a regional non-governmental organization (NGO) that serves as a coordinating body of 30 National Committees of Parliamentarians on Population and Development in Asia-Pacific. The objective of the organization is to strengthen the regional network of parliamentarians who are committed to implementing the population and development agenda, particularly the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). AFPPD aims to achieve this through capacity building for parliamentarians and National Committees.

The East Asian Bureau of Economic Research (EABER) is a forum for economic research and analysis of the major issues facing the economies of East Asia.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Carmen Lamagna</span> Filipino academic

Carmen Zita Lamagna is a Filipino academic. She was the former vice-chancellor of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), appointed by the president of Bangladesh. In 1997, by becoming VC of AIUB, she became the first female vice chancellor of a university in Bangladesh. She also served as the president of Association of the Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) and treasurer of International Association of University Presidents (IAUP).
