Ath.Lon is the sixth studio album by Greek synthpop duo Marsheaux. After covering Depeche Mode's album A Broken Frame in 2015, Marsheaux released new original tracks on this album. The name Ath.Lon is a combination of Athens and London where the album was produced. [1]

The Greeks or Hellenes are an ethnic group native to Greece, Cyprus, southern Albania, Italy, Turkey, Egypt and, to a lesser extent, other countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. They also form a significant diaspora, with Greek communities established around the world.

Marsheaux band that plays synthpop

Marsheaux is a Greek synthpop duo formed in Athens in 2003. The group is composed of vocalists, songwriters and keyboardists Marianthi Melitsi and Sophie Sarigiannidou. The name Marsheaux is derived from the first syllable of each band member's name. Both members sing almost exclusively in English. Andy McCluskey of OMD said about this band: "I do have a soft spot for Marsheaux I have to say. They have a certain sort of wispy, melancholic charm".

Depeche Mode are an English electronic band formed in Basildon, Essex, in 1980. The group currently consists of a trio of Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, and Andy Fletcher (keyboards).

The reviewer for Release Magazine lauded the production and found that the album contained influences of Chvrches and Ladytron. [2] According to The Arts Desk , Ath.Lon was remiscent of Philip Glass and New Order but suffered from a "weedy" production. [3] The Electricity Club noted "excellently layered sounds" with motorik beats similar to early Depeche Mode releases. [1]

Release Magazine is an independent alternative music online magazine based in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was born in Umeå in 1986. The first years it was run by Britta Näsman as an A5 fanzine, just for fun. When she moved to Belgium, Mikael Kahrle and Lotta Kahrle took over the business gradually. They wanted to slowly convert Release to a real magazine, which they did. The web magazine was established in 1997, while the printed version was published until August 1998.

Chvrches Scottish synthpop group

Chvrches is a band from Glasgow, Scotland, formed in September 2011. The band consists of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty. Mostly deriving from the synth-pop genre, Chvrches also incorporate indietronica, indie pop, and electronic dance into their sound.

Ladytron band

Ladytron are a British electronic band formed in Liverpool in 1999. The group consists of Helen Marnie, Mira Aroyo, Daniel Hunt and Reuben Wu (synthesizers).
